Quick thoughts
It’s a shame that, as usual, another good Amex offer for airline spending is being limited to departures from the US, but this is still a pretty good offer for which to be targeted.
$2,000 isn’t much to spend on air travel that takes you as far as Qatar or further (especially if you’re a family or booking a premium cabin), and when you add in the fact that the spending requirement doesn’t have to be met in a single transaction and that you only have to book and pay (not fly) by the end of the year, this becomes an offer that should be relatively easy to use.
As we’re seeing this offer on every consumer Amex card that we hold (business cards appear to be excluded), this doesn’t appear to be a narrowly targeted offer, and as our cards include the Platinum Card® from American Express, a lot of readers should be able to pair the $300 saving with the 5 points/dollar that the Platinum Card offers on up to $500,000 of spending made directly with airlines or flights booked through Amex Travel (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply).
That would be a haul of at least 10,000 points which we value at $150.
Bottom line
American Express is now targeting select cardholders for a saving of $300 on bookings made with Qatar Airways. Make sure you read the terms and conditions of the offer carefully before you book (not all spending with the airline will qualify to trigger the credit) and make sure you book using the US version of the Qatar Airways website or the statement credit will not be triggered.
