Quick thoughts
It’s a little unusual to see an Amex rental car offer that covers bookings made outside of the US, so it’s nice to see Australia and New Zealand included here.
It’s also good to see that the terms and conditions indicate that the $300 of spending required to trigger the rebate doesn’t need to be made in a single rental (“spend a minimum of $300 in one or more purchases”) although this seems to be standard for Amex nowadays.
What’s less good is that this is a less generous offer than we normally see when Amex and Enterprise join forces (usually it’s a “spend $250 and get $50 back” offer).
Naturally, everyone should be loading this offer on the credit card that offers them the best combination of rental car cover and points earnings and as I’m only seeing this offer on my consumer cards, that would mean that the Platinum Card® from American Express may be a good option.
If you don’t have the Amex Platinum Card but have this offer targeted to the American Express® Green Card, you may have to decide if you would prefer to forgo the saving on your next rental and use a card which would give you primary rental car cover and good points earning (like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card), or if you are prepared to use your own insurance (should anything go wrong) and take the 3 points/dollar and the savings from the Amex offer that the American Express® Green Card would give you (terms apply).
Personally, I would probably use the American Express® Green Card and take the $60 saving if I was renting for a short period of time. For a rental of any significant length, the insurance cover that the Sapphire Preferred Card gives would probably be more important to me than the saving from the Amex offer.
Note: All information about the American Express® Green Card has been collected independently by Traveling For Miles. The American Express® Green Card is not currently available through Traveling For Miles.
Bottom Line
Holders of targeted Amex cards who need to pay for a rental car in the US, Australia or New Zealand before 31 December 2025 should check to see if they’ve been targeted to save $60 on $300 of spending with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
Before booking, however, cardholders should also consider if the saving being offered and the benefits that come with the Amex card that they plan to use outweigh the earnings and insurance cover offered by any of the other cards that they hold.
They may not be the case (especially if primary rental cover is a benefit that’s being given up), so think carefully before deciding whether or not to use this offer.
