Thoughts
The first thing to note is that a number of US cities now get Qsuites Business Class service from Qatar Airways (here’s a list of the routes on which Qsuites are offered) so if you can book a flight (or flights) out of those cities you’ll have hours of fun in one of the world’s best Business Class cabins.
Secondly, with American Airlines not offering services to India, there are no non-stop oneworld options to the subcontinent for flyers based in the US, so that makes Qatar Airways the best option around for travelers wedded to the oneworld alliance.
Unsurprisingly, the East Coast deals are considerably better than the deals on offer out of LA (bad news for me) but a cheap positioning flight (booked with cash or points) to NYC/Boston/Philadelphia/Miami would still allow west-coasters to make the most of some of these deals.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay over $3,000 for a Business Class fare (especially when award availability on Qatar Airways isn’t too bad) but, if I was chasing American Airlines status, I’d be very tempted with some of the fares in the $2,450 – $2,550 range thanks to the impressive number of American Airlines Elite Qualifying Miles, Elite Qualifying Dollars and Redeemable Miles they offer.
Also, don’t forget that Qatar Airways flights can also be credited to the British Airways Executive Club so, if the American Airlines AAdvantage program doesn’t interest you, perhaps the serious number of Tier Points and Avios on offer with these fares may make them look a bit more tempting.
Essentially, as well as being pretty good deals in their own right, some of the cheaper fares here represent a great opportunity to boost a flyer’s progress to whatever oneworld elite status they happen to be chasing.
Bottom Line
We don’t often see good Qatar Airways Business Class fares for travel out of the US so, although the list of destinations I’ve posted above isn’t exactly very varied, it’s nice to see more than one route offering fares under $2,500.
Don’t forget that you only have through 15 September to book so don’t leave things too long if you see a fare that works for you.
