Amex has started targeting select cardholders for a statement credit in return for spending made at Radisson properties in the Americas. Most of the properties at which this offer is valid appear to be in the US and Canada, but you’ll also find a few participating locations in Central and South America as well as one or two in the Caribbean.

Thoughts

I wasn’t sure what to make of this offer before I started looking into it as Radisson has never really been viewed as a big player on this side of the Atlantic.

Put plainly, I wasn’t expecting this offer to be useable at a significant number of properties and I was expecting the deal to be pretty niche.

Well, I was wrong.

A quick look at the list of participating properties shows five and half pages of hotels and resorts from Canada in the north to Uruguay in the south and a lot in between.

Sure, most of the properties on the list are in the United States, and anyone familiar with Radisson’s history in the US will be able to tell you that most of these are going to be in secondary towns/cities and are probably not going to be particularly exciting (at the risk of judging a book by its cover, the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel Scranton doesn’t sound like somewhere I’d enjoy visiting for a relaxing break). But there are a few interesting looking options on the list.

In the US, the Radisson Resort Miami Beach, the Hotel Napa Valley, Ascend Hotel Collection, and the St Charles Coach House all show promise (not all Radisson properties in the US appear to be participating).

Further afield, there are properties like the Radisson Cartagena Ocean Pavillion Hotel in Colombia, the Radisson Paraiso Hotel Mexico City, the Grand Hotel Guayaquil, Ecuador, the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados, and the Radisson Hotel Decapolis Miraflores, Peru, which all look pretty good, so if you’re prepared to sift through a list containing a lot of very ordinary properties, you’ll probably find quite a few that seem worth visiting.

As far as the offer itself goes …

This looks to be a broadly targeted as I can see it on all my Membership Rewards cards (including business cards) so I’ve chosen to load this card to the Platinum Card® from American Express.

Why? Because even though I’m also seeing the offer on the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express which earns me 2 points/dollar on up to $50,000 of eligible spending per year (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply), the Platinum Card doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees while the business card does, and if I use this offer, I’m most likely to use it outside of the US.

You, however, may be able to do better. If you’ve been targeted for this offer on your American Express® Green Card, for example, you can earn 3 points/dollar on most travel spending and that includes stays at hotels around the globe (terms apply).

Bottom line

Amex has launched a new offer for stays at Radisson properties in the Americas with which targeted cardholders can earn a rebate of $75 on stays paid for by the end of November 2024. If you’ve been targeted for this offer (I suspect most cardholders will see this in their accounts), make sure you save it to the card that will earn you the most points for your stay.
