In many ways, Norse Atlantic was created in the image of the Norwegian Airlines that we remember before the pandemic, so it’s no surprise to find the airline offering a low-cost transatlantic product out of a variety of European cities.

One of the transatlantic routes that we’ve seen the airline operate this summer was between New York (JFK) and Athens, and this route is set to be suspended after 29 September.

A recent schedule update, however, suggests that the route is being resurrected for summer 2025.

Norse’s route between NYC and Athens

Norse will bring back its New York (JFK) – Athens route from 15 May next year using the 787-9 Dreamliners that the airline is known for.

Between 15 May and 12 June, the route will operate 3x/week on the following schedule:

N0502 JFK 01:15 – 17:30 ATH (Mon)
N0504 JFK 12:55 – 05:10+1 day ATH (Tue)
N0504 JFK 13:25 – 05:40+1 day ATH (Thu)

N0503 ATH 07:20 – 10:55 JFK (Tue)
N0503 ATH 07:50 – 11:25 JFK (Thu)
N0501 ATH 19:40 – 23:15 JFK (Sun)

From 13 June, however, two more flights will be added giving Norse 5 weekly flights between New York and Athens and I *think* that may be 2 more weekly flights than we saw on this route in 2024.

N0502 JFK 01:15 – 17:30 ATH (Mon)
N0504 JFK 12:55 – 05:10+1 day ATH (Tue)
N0504 JFK 13:25 – 05:40+1 day ATH 789 (Thu)
N0504 JFK 13:55 – 06:10+1 day ATH 789 (Fri & Sat)*

N0503 ATH 07:20 – 10:55 JFK (Tue)
N0503 ATH 07:50 – 11:25 JFK (Thu)
N0503 ATH 08:20 – 11:55 JFK (Fri & Sat)*
N0501 ATH 19:40 – 23:15 JFK (Sun)

*The extra flights.

The aircraft

As already mentioned, Norse Atlantic operates 787-9 Dreamliners between the US and Europe, and all come in the same 2-cabin configuration:

Economy Class

282 seats set out in a 3-3-3 layout offering 17″ of width and just 31″ of pitch (leg room). The seats will recline no more than 3″ and come with a 9″ touchscreen display and a single USB-A power port (no AC power in this cabin).

Premium Economy

56 seats set out in a 2-3-2 layout offering 19″ of width and 43″ of pitch, so this cabin is a big step up from Economy Class.

The seats recline 12″, offer each passenger a footrest, and come with a 9″ touchscreen display, a USB-A power port and a universal AC power outlet.

The 2025 fares

On average, you can currently expect to pay ~$230 for one way Economy Class travel from New York to Athens and ~$270 for one way Economy Class travel from Athens to New York, but those fares are for hand baggage only (1 personal item + 1 carry-on), no food on board and you’ll be in the last group to board.

If you’d like to bundle in a checked bag and a single meal service and not be the last to board the aircraft, prices average out at ~$300 from NYC and ~$345 from Athens.

In Premium Economy, you can currently expect to pay from ~$420 for one way travel from New York to Athens on most dates, and from ~$610 for one way travel from Athens to New York.

The Premium Fares are ‘lite fares’ which means that while they offer premium boarding, priority check-in, two meal services, a personal item and a carry-on bag. They don’t offer a checked baggage allowance.

As a standard checked bag costs $75 in either direction, anyone who needs a large luggage allowance would be advised to purchase a Premium Classic fare which currently average out at ~$490 for travel from JFK and ~$680 for travel from Athens.

The Premium Classic fare comes with a checked bag allowance (1 bag at 23kg/50lb) and is changeable for a fee.

Bottom line

A recent schedule update shows that Norse Atlantic Airways will bring back its JFK – Athens routes for at least part of the summer 2025 season and will offer 5 weekly flights between the two cities from 13 June.
