Get 15% off award night stays at new IHG hotels and resorts

Hyatt offers a handful of bonus points to customers staying at one of its recently opened properties, but IHG goes a little further by making stays at select new properties a little cheaper for customers booking with points. Specifically, it makes bookings 15% cheaper for a limited time and for some, this will be a useful saving to be offered.

The 15% off deal

The premise here is very simple. IHG publishes lists of its newest openings (it’s not clear if every new opening is included in this promotion) and for a limited time, all award stays made at these properties will cost 15% fewer points than they otherwise would have done.

Quick thoughts

As you’ll see when you look at the list of participating properties (which we’ve published at the end of this article), it’s hard to get away from the fact that there are a lot of Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express properties included in this deal (89 out of 134 properties) and not that many premium properties.

Also, in order to be eligible for a 15% discount on an award booking, stays need to be completed by October 31st, November 30th, or December 31st depending on how long a property has been open, so this idea will be better suited to readers who are either happy to make a last minute (of sorts) booking or who already have plans to travel soon.

All that negativity aside, HI/HIX properties can be useful, and there are a few interesting InterContinental, Kimpton and Voco properties in the mix here (e.g. InterContinental Bellview, InterContinental Chantilly Chateau Mont Royal, and Kimpton Santo), so this isn’t a list to be ignored.

Key to keep in mind here is that this is a deal that offers 15% off and not a deal that offers a 15% rebate, so you get the saving at the time of booking and don’t need to have enough points to make the full-price booking in your account.

When you go to book one of these properties, you should see the discount already applied on the booking page if you’re booking an eligible stay.

The good news here is that not only are these discounts going to make stays cheaper, but they can also bring these properties into range of the free night certificates offered by select IHG co-branded credit cards.

Here, for example, is a night at the Kimpton in San Antonio where the discount has brought the cost of an award night down to under 40,000 points per night (2 December 2024).

And here’s what you should see for a booking on the same date when you book with an IHG free night certificate.

It’s worth noting that we’ve had mixed results with this, so not all nights that can be booked with points are being made available for bookings with free night certificates and, interestingly, you may even find that a night bookable with a legacy free night certificate (capped at 40k) isn’t bookable with a more current free night certificate (worth up to 40k points and which can be topped up).
