Ebates/Rakuten is celebrating 20 years of its existence and we’ve already seen a slew of great deals offering 15% cashback (or Membership Rewards Points per dollar) over the past few days.

On Friday (and into the weekend) the cashback site was offering 15% back on bookings made at most IHG brands and, for today only, it’s offering 20% cash back (or 20 Membership Rewards Points per dollar) for purchases made with select retailers.

As far as I can tell, the stores offering 20% cashback are as follows:

  • Kiehl’s
  • Shoes.com
  • FTD Flowers
  • ebags
  • M Gemi
  • The Vitamin Shoppe
  • GNC
  • American Aparel
  • Toms
  • Wine.com
  • bareMinerals
  • Lucky Vitamin
  • Shari’s Berries
  • AG Jeans
  • Restaurant.com

Overall that’s not going to be a particularly interesting list for most of this blog’s readers…but the discount at eBags may be very useful.

As with most eBates deals, there are terms and conditions you need to be aware of:

  • Cash Back will be automatically added to your Rakuten account tomorrow.
  • Exclusions – Cash Back is not available on Gift Certificates, Monogramming, Luggage Locator Services, and the following brands:
    • AAXA Technologies
    • Canon
    • Fujifilm
    • Samsung
    • Amazon Products
    • Optoma
    • Tile
    • August Home
    • Nest
    • Asante
    • Panasonic
    • Ankr
    • Briggs & Riley.
  • Special Terms: Use of coupons/promotional codes not listed on Rakuten may void Cash Back. eBags reserves the right to cancel any orders that appear to be intended for resell purposes.

It’s disappointing to see Briggs and Riley in the list of excluded brands (it’s by far and away my preferred brand of luggage) but it’s interesting that there’s no mention of TUMI…especially as Samsonite is on the excluded list and Samsonite owns TUMI.

I’m not about to put myself forward as a big TUMI fan (I gave up on the brand a while back) but I know that a lot of people still like the luggage the brand produces and I have to admit to still liking the TUMI Alpha/Alpha 2 ranges which are made out of ballistic nylon.

ebags has a few TUMI items on sale right now and some readers may even be able to get an extra discount (or bonus Membership Rewards Points) through an eBags Amex offer so, combined with the 20% cash back, there may be some good savings to be had.

Bottom Line

I suggest staying clear on the Tegra and the V3 ranges if you’re looking for checked luggage (I’ve found that both scratch easily and I’ve had issues with the locks) but the thick zippers and the ballistic nylon on the Alpha 2 range are things I can definitely recommend – they hark back to the days when Tumi wasn’t owned by Samsonite and produced great quality luggage.
