Save $250 on Virgin Atlantic bookings with this targeted Amex offer

American Express has launched a new targeted offer for spending made with Virgin Atlantic and this is a variation of the Virgin Atlantic offer that we saw Amex publish back in October last year (this offer requires slightly less spend for a similar percentage rebate).

Note: When this offer ran in October 2025, the rebate was for $250 on $1,800 of spending.

Quick thoughts

The first bit of good news is that multiple purchases totaling $1,700 or more will trigger this offer so you don’t have to spend the whole amount in one transaction.

The second bit of good news is that cardholders have until 29 March 2026 to trigger this offer and as that’s only the deadline for booking a qualifying flight, this offer should be valid on bookings for travel into February 2027 (and European hotels are often less expensive in January & February).

As usual, the one key bit of bad news is that the rebate is only available on trips originating in the United States and fares paid in USD (that rules out any cheap premium cabin fares originating in Europe).

If you’re considering a premium cabin booking, keep in mind that while it used to be hard to recommend Virgin Atlantic thanks to its appalling horse box style Business Class seats, some of the aircraft that it now operates now feature considerably newer business class seats and a new Premium Economy seat, and these are the aircraft you should aim to book if possible.

A question which will undoubtedly come up is the one asking if taxes and surcharges on a Virgin Atlantic award booking will trigger the credit? And the answer to that is that I don’t know for sure.

I know of occasions (in the past) where Virgin Atlantic surcharges have counted towards the spending target for Amex offers such as this one, but that doesn’t mean that the same applies today.

Targeted cards

We can see this offer targeted to every American Express card we hold (including business cards), so not only is the targeting broad (most US readers should see it on one or more cards), but the Platinum Card® from American Express is also being targeted, so if you hold the Platinum consumer card, you should be able to stack this deal with the 5 points/dollar on up to $500,000 of spending made directly with airlines that your card  offers (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply).

If you don’t hold the Platinum consumer card, you next best option (from a points earning perspective) will probably be the American Express® Green Card which offers 3 points/dollar on most travel purchases (terms apply).
