Surprisingly quietly, Hyatt has released a much needed update to its website and app which allows World of Hyatt members to view a year’s worth of award availability at most properties in its system.
The updated points calendar doesn’t yet cover all properties (some of the all-inclusive properties don’t have a calendar at all while others have a calendar but it hasn’t been populated) and there are still some bugs for Hyatt to iron out, but this is going to be a very useful tool to have.
Here’s how to access the Hyatt availability calendar and a quick peek at what it looks like.
Hyatt award availability calendar – desktop
On the desktop site, the new Hyatt award availability calendar has taken the place of the calendar that simply showed the cost of an award on every night of the year regardless of whether there was any availability or not.
To view the calendar, perform an award search as normal and, when the search results appear, choose a property from the list by selecting “view rates”.

On the property page that now follows, you should see a link to the points calendar next to the image of the property.

The new award availability calendar should now open, and this is what it looks like.

You can use the navigational settings just above the calendar to view award availability from month to month, and when you hit upon a month where some dates have no availability at all, the calendar will show you.

Right, that was what it looks like on desktop, so now we move to the app.
Hyatt award availability calendar – mobile app
To view the calendar in the Hyatt app, perform an award search as normal and, when the search results appear, choose a property from the list by selecting “view rates”.

On the property page that now follows, you should see a link to the points calendar under the property’s featured.

Click on the link and the new award availability calendar will open.

Unlike the desktop version, the app version of the new award calendar doesn’t have any navigational buttons so you simply scroll up and down to see availability by month, and where a property doesn’t have any availability on a given date, that date is greyed out.
Some bugs
Like most new feature updates, this one isn’t bug free.
Here, for example, is the Alila Ventana Big Sur showing award availability at the 66k and 90k level for the night of October 14th when I search on the desktop site.

When I now choose to view the points calendar, however, all I can see is availability at the 90k/night level.

In fact, the Alila Big Sur desktop points calendar is currently only showing 90k/night availability or no availability at all.
As similar but slightly stranger issue can occur in the app.
Here’s the app showing me 66k and 90k per night Alila Ventana Big Sur Availability for the same date as in the desktop example.

But when I attempt to select a room, I get a message informing me that no rooms are actually available.

And when I then proceed to the new award/points calendar, it shows absolutely no availability at the Alila Ventana Big Sur regardless of what date I select.

To be fair, this isn’t the end of the world as it only seems to be an issue that crops up from time to time and possibly only at select properties (I saw something similar happen when searching for availability in Chicago).
Obviously it would be helpful if Hyatt fixed this as soon as possible, but I’m not going to let this take away from what is a very useful development – this should save Hyatt fans a lot of time and effort when it comes to finding good value awards … especially at high-demand destinations.
Bottom line
Hyatt has rolled out a vastly more useful version of its award/points calendar so, bugs aside, it’s now possible to view award availability at most Hyatt properties across an entire year.
Hopefully the bugs we’re seeing will be fixed in the coming days and hopefully, we’ll see the calendars for the all-inclusive resorts added soon, but for now let’s just enjoy a very nice improvement to Hyatt’s award search functionality.
