The InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit is IHG’s the newest luxury property in Bangkok and following a soft opening that started on 1 December, the property will be celebrating its official grand opening tomorrow, 23 January 2024.
Over the weekend, TFM was shown around the latest addition to the InterContinental brand, so this is where I’m going to share the pictures that were taken on the tour.
Before I start, I should give you a quick heads up that we didn’t get access to the Club InterContinental Lounge (located on the building’s 31st floor), so that will have to wait for another day (sorry), but we have images from all the communal areas (the open ones), as well as images of three (slightly) different category of room, so this should give you a good idea of what to expect should you choose to visit.
Location
The InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit is in Bangkok’s Thonglor district and sits one block down from the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit which I reviewed way back in 2019 (here).
The closest BTS station to the hotel is Thong Lo, so if you’re arriving from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) and want to take public transport, take the Bangkok Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai station (the end of the line) and then change to the BTS rail service (you’ll need to get a separate ticket for this) heading for Kheha.
Thong Lo station is 8 stops away from Phaya Thai on the Kheha line and the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit is a 5 minute walk from Thong Lo station.
The hotel – general
The InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit sits in a building with 34 floors and the guest rooms start from the 14th floor.
The check-in area and lobby are where you’d expect them to be – on the ground level – and the property’s restaurants and bars occupying areas on the ground, 2nd, 4th, 33rd and 34th floors.
Rogues (the 2nd floor bar) is not yet ready for visitors and is expected to open in February. Likewise, Tahona (the restaurant on the 33rd floor) is also not welcoming guests just yet and is not expected to do so until towards the end of this quarter.
AVA Brasserie is located on the 4th floor and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on the following schedule:
- Breakfast: Daily between 06:00 and 10:30.
- Lunch: Daily between 11:30 and 14:30.
- Dinner: Daily between 18:00 and 22:00.
At one end of the brasserie are a couple of meeting rooms that can be converted into private dining areas with seemingly little effort.
The 32nd floor is where guests will find the pool …
… as well as the fitness centre.
The rooms
We viewed three rooms on the 21st floor:
- 2110 – King Premium room
- 2111 – Twin Classic room
- 2112 – King Classic room
King Premium Room
These rooms measure approximately 450 sq. ft. (42 sq. m.) and look like this:
Both sides of the bed have access to universal power outlets and USB-A ports …
… and guests will find more universal power outlets and USB-A ports by the room’s table and chairs.
Also, the room comes with a coffee maker, a minibar, mugs, glassware and, a cocktail making kit.
King & Twin Classic rooms
The only real difference between the King Classic and the Twin Classic room is that one room has 2 beds while the other just the one, so with a few obvious exceptions, I’m going to use one room’s images to illustrate what the Classic rooms look like.
The Classic rooms measure approximately 375 sq. ft. (35 sq. m.) and look like this:
And finally … the view from the 21st floor:
Bottom line
The world’s newest InterContinental hotel has been enjoying a soft open since the beginning of December, and it’s full official opening is set to take place tomorrow, 23 January 2024 (even through a couple of the property’s areas are not yet ready to accept guests).
I’m not going to judge the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit before I have a chance to stay there, but from what I’ve seen so far, things look promising.
The combination of large, well-appointed premium rooms (which, I suspect, will be the rooms that IHG One Rewards Platinum elites will get upgraded into) and the typically friendly local staff should make this a nice place to visit, and as I have to return at some point to check out the Club InterContinental Lounge, this may well be the next Bangkok property at which I stay.
