Qatar Airways offers passengers who check-in online the option to purchase its “Super Wi-Fi” service in advance of travel and, by doing so, they can save up to 20% on the price they would be asked to pay onboard. This post shows you how to lock-in that saving.

Which Qatar Airways Aircraft Offer Super Wi-Fi?

Qatar Airways is currently only fitting its new Super Wi-Fi technology to its Boeing 777 and its Airbus A350 aircraft but not all of these aircraft currently offer Super Wi-Fi.

Right now here’s how things stand:

The following Qatar Airways aircraft types are all equipped with Super Wi-Fi:

  • Airbus A350-1000
  • Airbus A350-900 (with Qsuites)
  • Boeing 777 (with Qsuites)

The following Qatar Airways aircraft types are in the process of being equipped with Super Wi-Fi so some aircraft will offer the new technology while others won’t:

  • Airbus A350-900 (without Qsuites)
  • Boeing 777 (without Qsuites)

Qatar Airways has a tendency to change the aircraft it’s operating on any given route with very little notice so don’t assume that because you’re booked to fly in a particular aircraft that that’s the aircraft you’ll definitely be flying in.

How To Save On Qatar Airways Super Wi-Fi

The option to purchase Qatar Airways’ Wi-Fi in advance is offered during check-in so you’ll need your booking details and will need to be prepared to check-in before you can purchase Super Wi-Fi at a discount.

Online check-in for flights between in the US and Doha (both directions) opens up 24 hours prior to departure. For all other flights, online check-in is available 48 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure.

Here’s how to check-in and access the option to

Open up the Qatar Airways homepage:

From the homepage, you can navigate to the check-in page in two ways – via the link in the top-left of the screen or through the “Manage Booking” tab.

Both routes will eventually take you to the same page but if you choose to navigate via the “manage booking” tab be sure not to input any details in the fields that appear.

Instead just click on the “to check in” hyperlink that you should see under the yellow “retrieve booking” button.

Whichever route you’ve chosen to take to check-in you’ll end up seeing the following basic screen…

…and you should go ahead and input your booking reference or e-ticket number and your last name. Then click on the “check in” button.

On the page that now opens up you’ll see all the usual check-in options and, if you scroll down, you’ll see the Super Wi-Fi option offered under the “complement your journey” section.

Click on the Wi-Fi link.

The page that you should now be looking at will show you what flights in your itinerary will offer the airline’s Super Wi-Fi service and it gives you the option to choose how many access codes you’d like to buy.

Note: In this instance, the Wi-Fi is being priced up in Swedish Krona because my trip originated in Sweden.

At this point you should fill in the details required and proceed to payment as you would on any other website.

You’ll notice that on this occasion I was being offered the chance to buy full-flight vouchers at 77 SEK each which, at the time of writing, equates to approximately 8 USD each:

Onboard the same Wi-Fi was on sale for $10…

… so, prior to travel, I was being offered the full advertised 20% discount.

All the Qatar Airways flights that I have taken (and which offered Super Wi-Fi onboard) have been selling the Wi-Fi for $10 but I haven’t yet had the chance to try out the Super Wi-Fi option on the very longest routes that Qatar Airways operates (e.g. to/from the US or to/from Oceania) so the cost on these routes may be higher…but you should still be able to save up to 20% by buying Wi-Fi codes in advance of travel.

Bottom Line

If access to Super Wi-Fi on your particular flights is only costing $10 then the $2/flight saving may not seem like much but it can add up quickly if you fly with Qatar Airways with any frequency.

Also, don’t forget that the Qatar Airways Super Wi-Fi vouchers that you can buy are valid for one year from the date of purchase so if you don’t get around to using them as originally planned you’ll still have the best part of a year to use them up.
