Qatar Airways has brought back a version of a month-long promotion which it has run a few times before (the last time I recall seeing it was around this time last year), but this version of the promotion is a little better than any of the more recent versions that we've seen.

The promotion

For a limited time only, you will collect up to 40% bonus Avios when converting reward points from participating partners into Avios by 15 October 2025. The more reward points you convert, greater are your reward possibilities with Privilege Club.

For readers with access to US Citi Cards this means that Citi ThankYou points can now be converted to Avios at a rate of 1 point to 1.4 Avios when at least 50,000 ThankYou points are converted.

An important thing to be aware of here is that this isn’t a Citi offer. You will not see this offer on Citi.com or on the ThankYou site. This is a Qatar Airways offer so the bonus points will be awarded by the airline and not by the bank.

Key terms

  • This campaign is organized by Qatar Airways Privilege Club, enabling Privilege Club Members to earn up to 40% bonus Avios when they convert eligible reward points earned with a Participating Partner into Avios with Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

  • This campaign is open to all Privilege Club Members who are also customers of Participating Partners and have Rewards Points.
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club members who convert Reward Points from Participating Partners to Avios during the Campaign Period will earn bonus Avios:

    • 40% bonus Avios when converting 50,000 or more Avios. The bonus Avios will be 40% of the Avios earned from each individual conversion transaction.
  • The bonus Avios will be calculated per transaction and not on the cumulative sum of Avios converted from Rewards Points during the Campaign Period, accumulated transactions don’t qualify.
  • The conversion of Rewards Points to Avios is subject to the conversion ratio and terms and conditions set forth by the relevant Participating Partner.
  • Bonus Avios will be credited as per the transaction date notified by the relevant Participating Partner to Qatar Airways Privilege Club.
  • Bonus Avios earned as part of this campaign will be credited to a Member’s Privilege Club account by 30 November 2025.

  • Once Avios are credited to your Privilege Club account, after converting Rewards Points into Avios, the transaction will not be reversed.

Citi transfers

Citi ThankYou Points transfer over to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club in a ratio of 1:1. Other banking and loyalty currencies may transfer across in different ratios.

Transfers between Citi and Qatar Airways are instantaneous but the bonus points that are awarded by Qatar Airways will not appear in your Privilege Club account for up to 45 days after the transfer has taken place (in previous promotions similar to this one, I received my bonus points after 16 days and 18 days respectively).

Keep in mind that Qatar Airways Avios can be easily transferred across to British Airways so any Citi ThankYou Points that are transferred over can be used to book great value short-haul awards (on various airlines) through the British Airways Executive Club.

Avios within a British Airways Executive account can also be transferred to the Aer Lingus AerClub, Iberia Plus, and Finnair Plus programs all of which have their own sweet spots and good low surcharge award options.

Bottom line

Qatar Airways is offering a bonus of up to 40% for transfers of various rewards currencies to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club (I think this is the best bonus we’ve seen since 2022) and the promotion runs through the middle of October.

In the US, Citi is the major Qatar Airways partner and with ThankYou points readily available through cards like the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card and the Citi® Double Cash Card, there should be quite a few people for whom this promotion offers a great chance to boost an Avios balance.
