JetBlue has just announced that in an attempt to offer a more premium offering, it plans to open airport lounges at New York JFK and at Boston Logan, and that alongside a soon-to-be-released new premium credit card, it will also boost some perks that it offers to its more frequent flyers.

New JetBlue lounges on the way

As things stand, JetBlue doesn’t offer lounge access at any other airports that it serves and that does nothing for the airline’s claim to offer a premium transatlantic service out of its US hubs.

Starting from 2025, however, that looks like it will change after the airline confirmed that it will open an 8,000 sqft lounge at New York JFK Terminal 5 in ‘late 2025’ and that it will open an 11,000 sqft lounge at Boston Logan Terminal C ‘soon after’.

We’re told that both lounges will feature the airline’s iconic blue brand elements alongside ‘local and regional artwork’, ‘personal touches’ and ‘functional amenities’.

To us that’s all just marketing speak that doesn’t tell us very much, but apparently, this is what we can expect (per JetBlue):

  • Play: Unwind and socialize as JetBlue brings the ‘fun’ in functionality to the lounge experience while customers can also relax as mixologists shake and stir their favorite complimentary alcoholic 1 and non-alcoholic beverages at a full-service bar.
  • Work: Stay connected and fully charged with private workspaces featuring fast and free Wi-Fi, an abundance of outlets to plug in and free barista-made coffee bar beverages.
  • Lounge: Enjoy familiar hospitality with complimentary food and beverage offerings. Kick back alone or with groups throughout the lounge in comfortable, cozy seating areas.

Also, it looks like JetBlue may be learning from mistakes made by other airlines as it has said this:

‘Understanding that airport lounges have grown in popularity, which has resulted in overcrowding and long lines at other airline lounges, access to JetBlue’s lounges will be reserved primarily for its most loyal customers and premium credit cardmembers’.

So, what does that look like?

Well, apparently, access to the new JetBlue lounges will be limited to TrueBlue Mosaic 4 members (more on this later), transatlantic Mint customers, and holders of a yet-to-be-announced new premium JetBlue credit card.

TrueBlue Mosaic 4 members as well holders of the new premium JetBlue credit card will also receive complimentary access for an accompanying guest, but it doesn’t look like guesting privileges will extend to transatlantic Mint passengers which, frankly, seems fair enough.

Day passes and guest passes will also be available for purchase by additional eligible customers based on space availability and all customers will be able to purchase an annual pass.

No details of the new card have yet been released, but presumably it will have to come with a hefty annual fee if JetBlue’s aim to avoid overcrowding in its new lounges is to be realised.

Considering this card’s main selling point will probably be lounge access, it will be interesting to see how similar it is to the United Club Infinite Card (which, admittedly is issued by Chase while JetBlue’s card is likely to be issued by Barclays).

More Mosaic benefits

As well as announcing two new lounges, JetBlue has also said that select Mosaic members can expect more benefits in 2025.

Mosaic 4 members will be given complimentary access to the lounges and will be allowed to bring one accompanying guest into the lounge with them as a new addition to Mosaic 4 Signature Perks.

Also, we’re told that Mosaic members will be getting a further ‘additional enhancement’ in 2025 which, amazingly, sounds like an actual enhancement (I had no idea that any airline knew how to use that world correctly).

Starting in 2025 (presumably January?), Mosaic members who have earned 250 tiles will be awarded two additional ‘Move to Mint‘ upgrade certificates for every 100 tiles they earn.

Bottom line

JetBlue has confirmed that after holding out for all the years since its birth, it will finally cave into popular demand and open lounges at its hubs in New York (JFK) and Boston starting from late 2025. In addition, Mosaic 4 members will be given a new benefit that allows them to access the new lounges without charge (with a guest) and Mosaic members earning 250 tiles will now be awarded two extra ‘Move to Mint‘ upgrade certificates for every 100 tiles they earn.
