Hyatt has finally joined IHG and Hilton in launching a new promotion for the start of 2025 (Marriott is still sitting on the sidelines) and this time around, the promotion is one that focuses on the amount a guest spends rather than the number of nights that a guest stays. For some, that will be good news. For others, not so much.

Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion

Guests who register for the promotion by 10 March 2025 and who stay between 27 January and 28 March 2025 can earn triple points for stays at Hyatt Place and Hyatt house properties and double points at all other participating properties. Points earnings are capped.

Key terms

  • You must be a member of World of Hyatt in good standing at time of registration and stay and register for the promotion between January 14, 2025 and March 10, 2025 to participate.
  • Only Eligible Stays at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts worldwide, participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels, and the Venetian Resort completed after registration and between January 27, 2025 and March 28, 2025 (“Promotion Period”) will count towards this promotion.
  • All Eligible Stays must be completed by March 28, 2025.
  • Beginning on your first Eligible Stay after registration and during the Promotion Period, you will receive double points per Eligible Stay at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts worldwide, participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels, and the Venetian Resort.
  • Beginning on your first Eligible Stay after registration and during the Promotion Period, you will receive triple points per Eligible Stay at participating Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels worldwide.
  • For a property to be participating in the promotion, it needs to be participating in World of Hyatt at the time of the member’s reservation and stay.
  • All points awarded under this promotion are Bonus Points.
  • Under the double points promotion, you will receive five (5) Bonus Points per eligible dollar spent on your Eligible Stay. Under the triple points promotion, you will receive ten (10) Bonus Points per eligible dollar spent on your Eligible Stay.
  • A maximum of 20,000 Bonus Points may be earned under the double points promotion. This is in addition to the five (5) Base Points you would earn as your base earning.
  • A maximum of 10,000 Bonus Points may be earned under the triple points promotion. This is in addition to the five (5) Base Points you would earn as your base earning.
  • If a member chooses to earn Bonus Miles, the bonus will be awarded in World of Hyatt Bonus Points.
  • For the purpose of this promotion, an “Eligible Stay” is defined as any stay where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award.
  • Only the room occupied by the member will count toward this promotion.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the promotion page.

Thoughts

Well, even though this doesn’t look like a particularly exciting promotion, the effective rebates that World of Hyatt members can earn while the promotion is running look pretty good, so it’s a promotion that’s work looking at a little more closely.

With the double points promotion capped at 20,000 bonus points, you’ll need to spend $4,000 to max out your bonus earnings (the bonus is 5 points/dollar), and with the triple points promotion capped at 10,000 bonus points, you’ll need to spend just $1,000 to lock in all the points on offer here (the bonus is 10 point/dollar).

Until the bonus caps are reached, these are the earning rates that Hyatt guests can expect during the promotion period given that all members earn a standard 5 points/dollar on all stays and given that elite members get status bonuses:

  • Member – 10 points/dollar or 15 points/dollar (double points/triple points)
  • Discoverist – 10.5 points/dollar or 15.5 points/dollar
  • Explorist – 11 points/dollar or 16 points/dollar
  • Globalist – 11.5 points/dollar or 16.5 points/dollar

Based on our valuation of Hyatt points (which is currently 1.4 cents/point), these earning rates would see Hyatt guests earning effective rebates of between 14% and 23.1% and, as mentioned a little earlier, these rebates look pretty good.

Also, if you’re able to pay for your stay with a World of Hyatt co-branded credit card, you can add a further 4 points per dollar to each of those earning rates and therefore a further 5.6% to each of the effective rebates.

To show you what that could look like in a real world scenario, here’s an example:

A World of Hyatt Discoverist who spends $2,000 at full-service Hyatt properties during the promotion period and pays for their stays using a World of Hyatt credit card would earn …

  • 10,000 Base Points
  • 1,000 Elite Bonus Points
  • 10,000 Promotion Bonus Points
  • 8,000 Points from their credit card spending

That’s a total of 29,000 points which we view as an effective rebate of $406 or 20.3%.

In further good news, the first stay during the promotion period hasn’t been excluded this time (I hate it when loyalty programs do this), there’s nothing in the terms that excludes existing bookings, and even if you’re on an award booking, any spending charged to your room will be eligible to earn double or triple points during the promotion period.

The one piece of slightly disappointing news (from a selfish point of view) is that unlike what we saw in a few Hyatt promotions last year, there isn’t an extra promotion for World of Hyatt cardholders this time around.

Important: Keep in mind that only stays that take place after registration will earn the bonus points so make sure you sign up as soon as possible to avoid finding yourself in a situation where you you’ve enjoyed a Hyatt stay, got home and suddenly remembered that you never got around to registering (it happens more often than you may think!)

Bottom line

Hyatt has announced details of its new Bonus Journeys promotion which will go live for stays taken between 27 January and 28 March 2025. The promotion will offer World of Hyatt members triple points on Hyatt Place and Hyatt House stays (capped at 10,000 bonus points) and double points on all other eligible stays (capped at 20,000 points).

At first glance this doesn’t look like a particularly promising promotion, but once you crunch the numbers, you can see that the effective rebates on offer are clearly worth having … it’s just a shame that they’re capped.
