Amazon and American Express are currently running a number of good promotions in which customers can save up to $50 on a wide variety of items from Amazon.com when they use just one Membership Rewards point to part-pay for their purchase. If you have a US-issued membership rewards card, it’s time to check if you’ve been targeted.
Over the past couple of years, I lost quite a bit of interest in the various “save on Amazon purchases by using just one point” deals that have been published as I rarely seem to be targeted for them – there’s only so much rejection a man can take! – but this time it looks like the savings gods are on my side as I’ve been targeted for what appears to be one of the better promotions around – save 40% with a maximum discount of $50.
The other deals that I’ve read about offer savings of between $10 and $40 so if you haven’t been targeted for the same promotion as me, there may be a different offer waiting for you.

Key terms
- This is a limited time offer. The promotion will end on the earlier of (a) 11:59pm PT on 5/1/2022, or (b) the time at which 16,000 customers have redeemed the offer. The promotion button will expire concurrently.
- Offer applies only to the purchase where Membership Rewards points are used for at least a portion of the purchase and the promotion is applied at checkout.
- This offer only applies to eligible purchases. Eligible purchases are products sold and shipped by Amazon.com.
- Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities are not eligible, even if they are fulfilled by Amazon.com or Prime eligible. Digital content purchases are also not eligible.
- Shipping charges may apply to eligible purchases.
- Maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is $50 per eligible Membership Rewards enrolled card or per one Amazon account.
- Offer may not be combined with other offers.
- Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your original order. If any of the items in your original order are subsequently returned, your refund will equal the original price of the product, less the proportional amount of the discount. The total discount on the unreturned amount of your original order will then be less than the maximum discount availed.
- If any of the products related to your original order are returned, subject to Amazon’s refund policy, you will receive a refund of the amount charged to your card first, followed by Membership Rewards points.
- Promotional codes (including those placed directly in accounts) may not be redeemed for Amazon Gift Cards.
- This promotion is available only to Amazon.com customers with an eligible Membership Rewards enrolled Card issued in United States.
- Promotional credit is applied before taxes and fees

Quick thoughts
While you cannot purchase Amazon Gift Cards with this offer, at least some 3rd party gift cards appear to trigger the discount so you don’t have to buy a physical item to make the most of this deal.
For me, this offer came just at the right time as I urgently needed to top up an Apple account (out of which I pay a monthly fee for extra storage) and I was able to purchase a $125 digital Apple Gift Card for $75.
Better yet, I was allowed to pay the $74.99 that I owed with the credit I had sitting in my Amazon account which was there courtesy of a gift card purchase that had already earned me 5 Ultimate Rewards Points/dollar.
Bottom line
If you shop through Amazon.com and hold a US-issued Amex Membership Rewards Card it’s time to see if you’ve been fortunate enough to be targeted for one of the very good promotions that are currently available. The savings on offer range from $10 to $50 and with those savings representing up to 40% off the purchase price of your chosen eligible item, these are promotions that a worth looking out for.

It is garbage, you can barely find anything that meets the requirements anymore. All sold by someone else, even when prime, not sold by Amazon.
