Following on from its July announcement of new routes from Stockholm to Bangkok, Phuket, and Miami, Finnair has now confirmed that it plans to launch two more US routes out of the Swedish capital and that it plans to turn what has traditionally been a transatlantic summer route into a route that’s operated year-round.

Finnair’s New Stockholm – USA Routes

Los Angeles

From 2 November 2021, Finnair will offer a new non-stop route between Stockholm and Los Angeles using its Airbus A350 aircraft. As things stand (per ExpertFlyer), this route will be operated 3x/week on the following schedule:

AY3 ARN 14:15 – 17:15 LAX (Tue, Fri & Sun)
AY4 LAX 21:05 – 15:40 ARN+1 day (Mon, Wed & Sat)

This service is currently set to operate through 25 March 2022 and will operate alongside Finnair’s existing service between Helsinki and Los Angeles which operates 3x/week.

New York (JFK)

Finnair’s current schedule shows the airline commencing non-stop flights between Stockholm and New York JFK from 7 December 2021. As things stand (per ExpertFlyer), this route will be operated 3x/week using a Finnair A350 on the following schedule:

AY29 ARN 19:35 – 22:00 JFK (Tue, Fri & Sat)
AY30 JFK 20:35 – 09:50 ARN+1 day (Tue, Fri & Sat)

This service is currently set to operate through 26 March 2022 and will operate alongside Finnair’s existing service daily between Helsinki and JFK.

Miami

As was announced back in July, Finnair will enhance its offering to the US from 23 October 2021 by adding 2 weekly flights non-stop flights between Stockholm and Miami (on Wednesdays and Saturdays). The airline will add a further two weekly Stockholm – Miami flights from 29 November leaving the planned schedule looking like this (as of 1 December):

AY17 ARN 09:35 – 14:10 MIA (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat)
AY18 MIA 16:40 – 07:40+1 day ARN (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat)

This service is currently set to operate through 22 April 2022.

Finnair Increases Service To Chicago

Finnair currently operates a daily summer service between Helsinki and Chicago and traditionally this is a service that ends in October when the winter schedule comes into effect. This year, however, this will change with Finnair confirming that it plans to offer a year-round service on the Helsinki – Chicago route.

As things stand, this is what the summer schedule looks like:

AY9 ARN 16:15 – 17:25 ORD (Daily)
AY10 ORD 21:30 – 13:55+1 day ARN (Daily)

From 29 October, the winter schedule will come into effect with Finnair offering a 3x/week service (Mon, Wed & Fri) before the airline adds 2 further weekly flights (Thu & Sun) from 3 February 2022 and reverts to a daily schedule from 27 February 2022.

Interestingly, this route is currently scheduled to be operated by an A330-300 (rather than the more usual A350) from 27 March 2022 but this may simply be down to the fact that Finnair hasn’t yet inputted all the data for its summer 2022 season.

Bottom Line

This winter season will see Finnair offering non-stop flights from Stockholm to Los Angeles, New York, and Miami as well as seeing the Finnish flag carrier offering a new service between Helsinki and Chicago.
