British Airways has announced that Executive Club members will be able to earn double or triple Avios on spending with a host of household brands this holiday season. With increased earnings available through both the US and UK portals, these deals should be useful to quite a few TFM readers.

Headline Info

  • Must be a British Airways Executive Club member to participate (link to join for free)
  • Increased rates available from today through to 22 December 2019
  • Increased rates only available at select retailers

It looks as if US-based Executive Club accounts are (mostly) only being offered up to double the usual number of Avios on offer…but there are still some pretty good deals to be had.

Example US Avios earning rates:

  • Apple – 4 Avios/dollar
  • Bloomingdales – 7 Avios/dollar
  • Hugo Boss – 10 Avios/dollar
  • Macy’s – 7 Avios/dollar
  • Neiman Marcus – 12 Avios/dollar
  • Saks Fifth Avenue – 6 Avios/dollar
  • Viator – 8 Avios/dollar

I value Avios at a conservative 1.0 cents/dollar so these example deals offer an effective rebate of between 6% and 12% on top of whatever savings you can make in the sales that a lot of these retailers are currently offering.

Also, don’t forget that “department stores” are a Chase Freedom 4th Quarter bonus category so, if you’re clicking through to the likes of Macy’s and Bloomingdales and have a Chase Freedom card, you’ll be able to earn 5% cashback (or 5 Ultimate Rewards points/dollar) on top of the sopping portal earnings (up to a total spending of $500).

As usual, the UK deals are mostly better than the deals that US-based Executive Club members get with a number of retailers offering up to 3x the number of Avios we usually see them offering.

Example UK Avios earning rates:

  • Apple – 9 Avios/£
  • ASOS – 9 Avios/£
  • Currys PC World –  6 Avios/£
  • Fortnum & Mason – 15 Avios/£
  • Groupon – 18 Avios/£
  • Harrods – Up to 12 Avios /£
  • John Lewis – Up to 4 Avios/£
  • Lego – 15 Avios/£
  • M&S – 6 Avios/£
  • NET-A-PORTER – Up to 18 Avios/£
  • Notonthehighstreet – 12 Avios/£
  • Selfridges – Up to 18 Avios/£
  • Sonos – 10 Avios/£
  • The White Company –  9 Avios/£

Clearly everyone will have their own favorites but the deals that stand out of that list (for me) look to be the 9 Avios/£ at Apple and the £10 Avios/£ at Sonos.

Apple products are always one of the favorite gifts to give at this time of year and with Sonos offering some of the better home speakers around (as well as the new Sonos Move outdoor speaker) there should be some very easy Avios to pick up for a lot of this blog’s readers.

Bottom Line

Shopping portals can be a great way to boost points & miles balances all year round but, as we enter a period of the year where most people’s shopping bills suddenly spike upwards, it’s more important than ever to make sure that you’re earning as many bonus points and miles as possible from your spending – that’s why it’s important to pay attention to the deals that are being announced on an almost daily basis.
