All three of the major US carriers suspended their routes Tel Aviv following the horrendous incidents we saw in Israel in October last year, but now these routes are starting to come back.
American Airlines seems to be intent on waiting until October to restart its New York – Tel Aviv route, but United Airlines restarted its Newark – Tel Aviv service at the start of the month and now Delta has confirmed that it will be bringing back its JFK – Tel Aviv route in June.
Delta returns to Tel Aviv
A few weeks ago, Delta was selling seats on this route from 1 May, but the airline has now said that its New York JFK to Tel Aviv route will be restarting on 7 June 2024.
This is what the currently planned schedule looks like:
DL234 JFK 23:40 – 17:35+1 day TLV (Daily)
DL235 TLV 23:55 – 05:10+1 day JFK (Daily)
The route is set to be operated by a Delta A330-900neo featuring the following cabin options:
- 29 Delta One Business Class suites.
- 28 Delta Select Premium Economy seats.
- 56 Delta Comfort+ Economy Class seats.
- 168 regular Economy Class seats.
The A330-900neo is among Delta’s newest wide body aircraft and home to Airbus’ ‘Airspace’ interior which, the manufacturer says, are “more relaxing, inspiring, beautiful and functional”.
Key features of the Airspace cabins are the larger overhead storage bins, spacious lavatories, wider seats and aisles (where airlines haven’t insisted on cramming in more seats) and unobstructed under-seat foot space throughout all cabins (no IFE boxes restricting passenger legroom).
More importantly for Business Class passengers, the aircraft features Delta’s best premium cabin seat – the Delta One suite – so anyone paying to fly ‘up front’ should enjoy a very pleasant journey.
Note: Delta has confirmed that any passengers booked to fly this route between 1 May and 6 June 2024 will be contacted by the airline and ‘reaccommodated accordingly‘. As Delta now has a codeshare agreement with EL AL, that reaccommodation will, presumably, involve passengers being offered seats on Israel’s flag carrier.
Bottom line
Delta will restart service between New York JFK and Tel Aviv on 7 June 2024 (5 weeks later than originally planned). The route will operate daily and assuming the current schedules are correct, it will also be operating year-round.
