Following on from yesterday’s announcements that select Executive Club members will be having their elite statuses extended and that lower tier points targets will be in place for the whole of 2022, British Airways has now also announced that it is extending its offer of double tier points on bookings made with British Airways Holidays.

How To Earn Double Tier Points

The last offer of double tier points that we saw from British Airways was for travel by 31 March 2022. That end date has just been extended to 31 October 2022.

To qualify, customers will need to either:

  • Book a holiday of at least five nights for two or more guests before 22 October 2022, or
  • Have a holiday booking for at least five nights already in place.

A hotel or car must form part of your booking for the whole trip if you are to earn double Tier Points but bookings don’t have to be made through British Airways holidays – a standard flight + car booking will trigger the bonus Tier Points.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the promotion page.

Quick Thoughts

British Airways has already reduced the number of Tier Points needed to earn status by 25%…

  • Bronze: 225 Tier Points or 18 eligible flights
  • Silver: 450 Tier Points or 37 eligible flights
  • Gold: 1125 Tier Points

…so anyone able to make the most of the double Tier Points promotion and the reduced targets will be able to enjoy elite status by earning as few as 37.5% of the tier points normally required.

The sweet spot here will probably be Executive Club Silver Status (oneworld Sapphire status) which comes with a lot of useful benefits like lounge access and free seat selection at the time of booking and which currently requires a traveler to earn just 450 Tier Points and fly on four segments booked through British Airways – that’s a Tier Point and segment total that could now easily be achieved with one long-haul Business Class trip that includes a hotel or car booking.

This could be a very nice deal if the travel world doesn’t implode (again) and people can actually travel long haul without too many inconveniences.

Bottom Line

British Airways is now offering double tier points on select holiday and flight + car bookings that cover the period through 31 October 2022.

If the latest British Airways status extension didn’t do you any favors and you’re still short of your requalification tier point target, the news that the airline has now extended its double tier points offer to cover travel for most of 2022 may brighten up your day.
