Quick thoughts
Clearly, this is a considerably more narrowly targeted offer that most of the Amex offers we are accustomed to seeing, but it’s still a pretty good offer to be targeted for if you’re a JetBlue flyer.
At TFM we value Amex points at 1.5 cents each (based on the value we know we can get out of them without much effort) and that values the 5,000 points on offer at $75. That’s pretty good considering you only need to spend $250 to trigger the rebate.
The low spending requirement to trigger the rebate is also good news, as are the fact that the target doesn’t have to be met in a single transaction and the fact that inflight purchases as well as various fees will count towards it, so this should be a very easy offer to use.
It’s worth keeping in mind that only flights originating in the US will trigger this offer (so you can’t use it on a cheap flight originating in Europe), but this will still work to reduce the cost of a transatlantic flight out of Boston or New York just as it will reduce the cost of any domestic booking.
Don’t forget that although the offer has to be triggered by 18 October, travel can be for as far in the future as JetBlue will allow you to book, so just because you don’t need to fly in the next few weeks, doesn’t mean that this offer can’t save you cash on a future booking.
Bottom line
JetBlue fans who hold a consumer Amex Platinum card should check the targeted offers section of their Amex accounts to see if they have a “spend $250 and earn 5,000 bonus points” JetBlue deal waiting for them.
