How to earn Marriott Bonvoy points with Uber in the United States

Through its partnerships with Hilton, Alaska Airlines, and Bilt Rewards, Lyft seems to have made a little more of an effort than Uber when it comes to offering customers a way of earning miles & points towards future travel, but Uber recently added Delta as a partner (Delta was a Lyft partner until April 2025) and it has one more key partnership in the United States – a partnership with Marriott Bonvoy.

Uber and Marriott Bonvoy have been partners since 2021 and while this partnership is limited to speding made with Uber in the US, it’s still a good way for Marriott Bonvoy members to keep their account balances ticking upwards without having to go to any extra effort.

Here’s what you need to know about the Uber/Marriott Bonvoy partnership:

What’s on offer

There are three ways a Marriott Bonvoy member can boost their points balance by spending with Uber in the United states:

• Earn 6 points/dollar on eligible Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders of $40+ (excluding taxes, fees, and tips) that are delivered to any hotel within the Marriott portfolio in the United States.
• Earn 3 points/dollar spent on rides with UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV, and Uber Black.
• Earn 2 points/dollar on eligible Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders that are delivered to any address that isn’t a property within the Marriott portfolio in the United States.

Note: Marriott Bonvoy points earned for qualifying transactions will be based on U.S. dollars spent before promotions and discounts, excluding taxes, fees, and tips.

Link your Uber & Bonvoy accounts

To make sure that you earn all the Bonvoy points due to you, you’ll have to make sure that your Uber and Marriott Bonvoy accounts are linked (you’ll your Marriott Bonvoy membership number for this part – you can join here if you’re not already a Bonvoy member).

The linking steps:

1. Open the Uber app on your smartphone — if you have an Uber Eats account, it will be linked at the same time.
2. Tap the “Account” icon in the bottom right, then tap “Settings”.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the settings page where you should see “Marriott Bonvoy” under the “Rewards” heading.
4. Tap on “Marriott Bonvoy.”
5. Tap “Link Account” on the screen that has just opened.
6. Sign in to your Marriott Bonvoy account with your email or membership number and wait for confirmation that your accounts have been linked.

That’s it. With your accounts linked you’ll now earn Marriott Bonvoy points each time you make an eligible transaction with Uber in the United States.

Note: Be aware that if you attempt to link your account while you are outside the United States, you may not see the option to link to Marriott Bonvoy as Marriott is only a US Uber partner.

The value on offer

At TFM, we value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.6 cents each (based on the value we know we can get out of them with relative ease) so, effectively, we see this Marriott/Uber partnership as giving Bonvoy members the opportunity to earn effective rebates of between 1.2% (2 points/dollar) and 3.6% (6 points/dollar)

That, however, isn’t the end of the points earning possibilities.

By using a credit card that earns bonus points for travel and/or transit services (which include rideshare services) to pay for any Uber/Uber Eats spending, a Marriott Bonvoy member can do better.

Use the best credit card

Using the right credit card (one that earns bonus points for travel and/or transit services (those which include rideshare services) can help ensure that you’ll ‘double-dip’ with all your eligible Uber spending and maximise your earnings.

Currently, these are the credit cards we think offer the best return on spending made with Uber in the US:

Points earning cards

• Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card – 3 points/dollar on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases in select categories (including travel) each anniversary year.
• American Express® Green Card – 3 points/dollar on travel (includes rideshare services – terms apply)
• Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card – 2 points/dollar on travel spending
• Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card – 2 miles per dollar on ride-sharing

Cash back cards

• U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card – 5% cash back on two categories of your choosing (up to a cap of $2,000 in combined eligible spending each quarter), eligible categories include ground transportation such as Uber
• Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express – 3% cash back (terms apply).
• Citi Double Cash® Card – 2% cash back on all purchases (1% back when you buy and 1% back when you pay)

Overall, we value Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Amex Membership Rewards points at a conservative 1.5 cents each, so for our purposes, our top two points earning cards (the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card and the American Express® Green Card) both offer a 4.5% effective rebate on Uber spending.

If you prefer cash back, the winner is the U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card, but keep in mind that to earn the 5% back that the card offers, you’ll have to select Ground Transportation as one of your two quarterly 5% categories and you’ll only earn 5% back on up to $2,000 of combined spending with whatever your other chosen 5% category is.

Bottom line

Marriott Bonvoy and Uber have a partnership that allows Bonvoy members to earn between 2 points/dollar and 6 points/dollar on select spending with Uber in the United States.

As you’re not giving up any points/miles or cash to earn these points, it makes sense to link your Uber and Bonvoy accounts to make sure you don’t miss out on any easy points, but the most important part of earning as many points/miles as possible when spending with Uber/Uber East continues to be making sure that you’re using the most rewarding credit card when paying.
