I have to hand it to Hyatt, they’ve been doing an exceptional job of incorporating properties from the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio into the World of Hyatt and today sees another 49 such properties join the program taking the overall total of participating SLH hotels to over 250.

Earning & Burning At Participating SLH Properties

• Guests earn 5 base points/dollar at all participating SLH hotels
• World of Hyatt elite members earn their usual tier bonuses at participating SLH properties (just as if they were staying at a Hyatt branded property).
• Guests earn elite qualifying nights at all participating SLH properties just as they would at Hyatt properties worldwide.
• 250+ SLH properties are now participating in the World of Hyatt program and all participating properties have been allocated a World of Hyatt category so they can all be booked using World of Hyatt points.

World of Hyatt Benefits At Participating SLH Properties

All World of Hyatt members (regardless of status) are afforded the following benefits at all participating SLH properties:

• Complimentary Wi-Fi
• Daily complimentary continental breakfast for two guests
• Room upgrade (one category at check-in if available)
• Early check-in (noon, based upon availability at check-in)
• Late check-out (2:00pm, based upon availability at check-in)

If you don’t hold elite status with World of Hyatt you’ll find that you get better benefits at SLH properties than you do at any of Hyatt’s brands – that’s a little odd but not a bad thing at all.

Quick Thoughts

There’s no doubt that some beautiful looking properties have just been added to the World of Hyatt and although the latest additions are pretty Europe-centric it’s great to see countries like Bahrain, Nicaragua, and Japan featuring on the list…and having properties in the Turks & Caicos and Belize being added is a huge bonus too.

A word of warning…

The cash rates you’ll be charged by Hyatt to book a room at a participating SLH property are often higher than the rates quoted on the SLH website and, annoyingly, you have to book SLH properties through Hyatt.com if you want to earn points and credits towards elite status – make sure you weigh up the benefits of the premium Hyatt asks you to pay before you book.

Bottom Line

Hyatt’s partnership with SLH has been a stroke of genius as it has allowed the hotelier to significantly increase the World of Hyatt’s footprint without having to sign complicated management agreements with individual properties or build new properties of its own.

The continuing incorporation of the SLH properties into the World of Hyatt keeps making the program stronger and, unlike what we’ve seen from a number of other hotel loyalty programs, it has brought value to guests and to those of us in the miles and points world who collect Chase Ultimate Rewards points with a view to redeeming them at beautiful properties worldwide.

As someone with a pretty high Ultimate rewards balance, I can’t help but smile every time Hyatt adds more SLH properties to its portfolio.
