In anticipation of a very busy July, Etihad has been trying to improve the check-in facilities that it offers at Abu Dhabi International airport and it has brought back a check-in option that we last saw back in December. This time, however, that check-in option also comes with a bonus offer.
In late June, Etihad announced that it was expanding its fast self-service bag drop facilities at Abu Dhabi International Airport in an effort to combat long lines and a crowded terminal.
What got a little lost in that announcement (because it wasn’t highlighted) was that Etihad has also brought back its early check-in facility at SkyPark Plaza and that the airline is offering a bonus of 2,500 Etihad Guest Miles or 5Kg more baggage allowance to customers who take up this option.
Originally it looks like the facility at SkyPark Plaza was operating between 09:00 and 16:00 daily but a recent Etihad tweet shows the opening times extended to 17:00.
While not expressly stated, it’s probably safe to assume that early check-in at SkyPark Plaza is working in the same way as it worked last time it was rolled out so that should mean the following:
- The facility is located on level 3 of SkyPlark Plaza (attached to Abu Dhabi International airport).
- The facility can be used between 4 and 24 hours before a passenger’s scheduled departure time.
- 2 hours of complimentary parking at SkyPark Plaza will be included
- One person can drop off the checked baggage for everyone traveling on the same itinerary.
For bookings with multiple flyers, it’s unclear if the bonus is available per person or just for the lead person on the booking but as it would seem odd to offer just one person (in a multiple-person booking) an increased baggage allowance, I suspect that all passengers with an Etihad Guest account can make the most of this offer.
Bottom line
If you’re flying with Etihad out of Abu Dhabi this month and you have an Etihad Guest account, you can lock in a relatively straightforward 2,500 Etihad Guest Miles (or make the most of a bigger weight allowance) by checking in early at SkyPark Plaza.
