There are a lot of travel blogs out there and there’s a lot of travel news being reported on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s a bit too much to keep up with everything that’s been happening (life gets in the way!). Each week we link to a few posts from various travel blogs that we read just to give you a flavour of what we’ve been reading and what we find interesting and/or useful (with a bias towards Marriott, Starwood & Air Travel).

From The Miles Professor – Maximizing Marriott Rewards: Flight and Hotel Packages

This is a good introduction to Marriott’s Flight & Hotel packages which are often the most rewarding ways to redeem Marriott Reward points. If you’re regularly staying at Marriott hotels or, more likely if you’re reading this blog, if you’re a Marriott Vacation Club owner, you’ll probably have a healthy Marriott Rewards points balance – make sure you know how to get the most value out of your points.

From Travel Is Free Best Category 1 & 2 Starwood SPG Hotels

Miles and points junkies often get caught up with the idea that you have to use your hotel loyalty points for aspirational properties – those once-in-a-lifetime resorts that probably wouldn’t be affordable without the big points balance you’re sitting on. This post is a good reminder just how much value you can get from the lower grade hotels in the Starwood network and how lower grade hotels don’t necessarily mean you have to forgo comforts.

From The Points GuyGoGo WiFi Offering Free Texting for T-Mobile Customers

Frequent fliers will be aware of the GoGo network that supplies Delta, American, United, US Airways, Virgin America and Alaska Airlines with their inflight wi-fi service. Now they’ve teamed up with T-mobile to offer T-Mobile customers free text messaging on GoGo WiFi equipped planes (started Wednesday, September 17th).

From Loyalty Lobby – Rocketmiles British Airways Executive Club Partnership Launched & Get 3,000 Bonus Avios For First Booking

Avios is the loyalty currency of British Airways so you may be wondering why a US centric blog would find this newsworthy. Well, using Avios on British Airways’ US based partner (American Airlines) provides a very economical way to fly short distances around the US (as Gary Leff of View From The Wing explains) – so if you have a hotel booking coming up this may be something to consider.

From Travel Update – Starwood’s W Hotels: We’ll return to scenic Australia

Our experiences with W Hotels in the US have been mixed but we’ve had better luck abroad so this is great news. The W Brisbane is set to open in 2018 with 305 rooms – time to start earning Starpoints!
