I’m not sure if these are mistake fares or if there’s something else going on here but I’m seeing economy class fares from Europe to the US that I don’t remember seeing priced this low (on full-service airlines) in years. Possibly not even this century.
American Airlines and British Airways are showing fares as cheap as $386 for a return trip between Europe and Los Angeles in December this year:
And January, February and March of next year:
The search that I initially used had these parameters:
And, as you can see from the screenshot below, there are various combinations of nights you can stay to get some truly amazing fares.
The cheapest routings involve departures/arrivals from either Dublin or Copenhagen (or both) – double click to enlarge:
But, if you search around, you’ll find flights involving Rome, Milan and Madrid as well.
There’s a little bit of good news for UK flyers as well – you don’t have to fly back to a European airport to get a good fare, you just have to fly out of one.
Normally great prices departing from the EU mean that you have to fly out of a European airport and then back into a European airport if you want a cheap price (which is how I found myself flying to Helsinki on BA recently). Not this time.
Copenhagen – Los Angeles – London for $415 isn’t exactly bad 🙂 (double-click to enlarge).
These fares will not last so book NOW if you want to take advantage of these fares. I strongly suspect that they’re not meant to be this low and it won’t take the airlines too long to get the prices back to where they normally are.
I’m in the middle of a big trip right now so I don’t have the internet connection or the time to check other routings (New York didn’t appear to bring up particularly spectacular results) but, if you find any other interesting fares, please share them with other readers in the comments area.
I used the ITA Matrix search engine to find these flights and, if you’ve never used the site before or if you ned a quick refresher on how to get the most out of it, these blog posts may be of help:
