American Airlines has been getting tighter and tighter with award availability on it’s own aircraft flying across the Atlantic. They’ve preferred to push travelers to their OneWorld partners, British Airways, who then promptly stick you with horrendous surcharges.
With all that in mind, solo travelers will be pleased to hear that American Airlines has opened up a raft of first class sAAver awards for summer travel between Los Angeles and London. Availability for two people traveling together is still virtually non-existent but if you’re traveling alone it’s wide open:
Most of the availability is to be found between 1 July and 17 August 2016 but there are a few other dates available too.
Most flights involve a stop-over in New York with a few connections via Dallas also available (both mainly on 777-200 aircraft):
Availability on the way back isn’t quite as open but there’s still a pretty good amount of space if you’re traveling alone:
While non-stop flights would be preferable a lot of these flights aren’t bad options. The flights between LAX and JFK are on American’s new A321 Transcon aircraft that have been getting great reviews.

But the connections offered between New York and London (and Dallas and London) appear to be on the older 777-200 aircraft. They’re far from terrible, just don’t expect Cathay first class 🙂
Will you be booking one of these awards or is the lack of availability for a second passenger a deal breaker? Is the fact that the flights are on the older 777-200 an issue?
