Hyatt has launched a new promotion for holders of its two co-branded credit cards, so for the next few months, anyone holding The World of Hyatt Credit Card or the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card can earn up to 20,000 bonus points on stays made at Unbound Collection properties worldwide.

The promotion

Register by 31 October 2024 to earn 1,000 bonus points per night for stays at Unbound Collection properties completed between 1 September and 30 November 2024. A maximum of 20,000 bonus points is available through this promotion.

Key terms

  1. You must be a World of Hyatt Credit Cardholder or World of Hyatt Business Credit Cardholder and register between August 26, 2024 and October 31, 2024 to participate.
  2. Only Eligible Nights completed after registration and between September 1, 2024 and November 30, 2024 (“Promotion Period”) will count towards this promotion.
  3. Beginning on your first Eligible Stay after registration and during the Promotion Period, you will receive 1,000 Bonus Points for every Eligible Night at participating properties in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
  4. A maximum of 20,000 Bonus Points may be earned under this promotion.
  5. All points awarded under this promotion are Bonus Points.
  6. For the purpose of this promotion, an “Eligible Night” is defined as any night where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award.
  7. For purposes of this promotion, consecutive nights at the same hotel constitute one stay (even if you check out and check back in).
  8. Only the room occupied by the member will count toward this promotion.
  9. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks after checkout for Bonus Points to be posted to your World of Hyatt account.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the registration page.

Thoughts

There’s quite a lot to like about this promotion but there’s also one glaring limitation.

The good stuff first …

Existing bookings will count towards this promotion, a guest’s first stay during the promotion period isn’t excluded (as has often been the case in past promotions), award bookings will earn the bonus points, and you earn bonus points per night and not per stay, so cardholders making multiple short stays don’t get penalised.

At our valuation of Hyatt points (1.4 cents each), the promotion is offering cardholders an effective rebate of $14 per night (up to $280 in total), and that’s also a nice positive (clearly, your effective rebate will vary depending on the value you ascribe to World of Hyatt points).

And now the less good stuff …

This promotion is limited to Hyatt’s Unbound Collection properties, so there are just 39 participating properties across the world … and 8 of those are in China.

The United States (where most Hyatt co-branded cardholders are based) has just 15 participating properties, Europe 11, and the rest of the world just 5, and that’s not really a lot of choice.

With a considerable number of the world’s major cities not hosting an Unbound Collection property, luck is going to play a big part in deciding just how many bonus points Hyatt cardholders will earn in this promotion.

No one is going to go out of their way to earn 1,000 bonus points per night and no one is now suddenly going to book previously unplanned travel, so unless you’re a cardholder who’s fortunate enough to have plans to visit one of the few locations that feature an Unbound Collection property, this promotion may not be of much value to you.

Personally, I’ve registered, but I’m pretty sure that I’ll be earning absolutely no bonus points from this deal 🙂

Bottom line

If you hold The World of Hyatt Credit Card or the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, Hyatt will give you 1,000 bonus points for every night that you stay at an Unbound Collection property between 1 September and 30 November 2024.

If you’re a cardholder who’s already planning to visit a location with an Unbound Collection property, this is a very nice promotion to see offered. For the rest of us, however, it’s not going to be significant.
