If you’re planning a trip to Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, or New Orleans, a new Amex offer for bookings at the Virgin Hotels in those locations may save you a nice amount of cash. Targeted cardholders can now get a $100 statement credit when they spend $500 or more on bookings paid for before the end of February 2022.

Quick thoughts

Considering Virgin Hotels only has five properties (which already makes this quite a niche deal), it’s a little disappointing that the property in Las Vegas has been deliberately excluded from this offer.

Still, the spending to trigger the credit doesn’t have to take place in a single transaction (multiple stays costing $500 or more will trigger the credit) and $100 back on a $500 stay is pretty good going, so if you can also make the most of some of the offers that Virgin Hotels is running right now (offers vary from property to property)…

…you could save quite a bit of money on should be a pretty good stay (the Chicago property seems to do very well in most surveys and its TripAdvisor ratings are excellent).

As far as the targeted cards go, I’m seeing this offer on all my Amex cards that aren’t co-branded hotel cards (I wouldn’t expect my Bonvoy or Hilton cards to incentivize me to book a stay with a different hotelier!) so this doesn’t appear to be an offer that’s targeted to a narrow audience.

As usual, I’ve chosen to load this offer to card_name (review) because it hasn’t been targeted to any of my other cards that offer a bonus for travel or hotel spending.

If you’ve been targeted, hopefully, you’ll have this offer available on a card like the card_name which will earn you, amongst other bonuses, 3 points/dollar on travel (terms apply).

Bottom line

Amex is currently targeting cardholders for a $100 on $500 of spending at all but one Virgin Hotels. The discount is valid through 28 February next year, so there’s no immediate hurry to book, and the spending needed to trigger the statement credit doesn’t have to take place in a single transaction so multiple bookings that add up to $500 or more will also see a cardholder earn the statement credit.
