Emirates first flew is A380 to Boston as a one-off flight in summer 2017 but we had to wait until mid-January 2019 before the airline announced seasonal A380 service between Dubai and Boston during the 2019 summer season.
Last month Emirates used a schedule update to add an A380 to the Dubai – Boston route between 1 June and 30 September 2019 in place of the Boeing 777 that was due to operate the route.
This will be a big upgrade for flyers as the Emirates A380 offers a significantly better experience than the airline’s 777.
The Emirates A380 offers 6 more First Class seats (a total of 14), 34 more Business Class seats (a total of 76) and 121 more Economy Class seats than the Boeing but the A380 also offers a better passenger experience than the 777 in every cabin:
- The A380 offers more First Class suites than the 777, bigger First Class suites than the 777 and it offers the famous onboard shower too.
- The Emirates Boeing 777 that currently operates between Dubai and Boston offers an antiquated angle-flat Business Class product in a 2-3-2 cabin layout while the A380 offers a modern, all-aisle-access, Business Class cabin with true lie-flat seats.
- Both the A380 and 777 offer a good 32″ of seat pitch in Economy Class but the A380 seats are 18″ wide while the 777’s seats are a tight 17″ wide.
Whichever cabin you book into the A380 is a noticeably better option than the 777…and that why the latest news is so welcome.
Emirates has scheduled its A380 to reappear on the Dubai – Boston route from 1 December 2019 and the aircraft is currently set to operate this route through the end of the bookable period.
Routes Online has reported that the A380 has been scheduled to fly the Dubai – Boston route through 31 January 2020 but, as the Emirates booking period doesn’t extend that far, I have no way of verifying this information.
Bottom Line
This is a very interesting development as it was widely believed that Emirates would only use the A380 on its Boston route for the busier summer period but, as you can see, we now also have the aircraft scheduled to fly the route in December and January.
Clearly this is very good news for anyone wishing to fly non-stop between the UAE and Boston as we now have an A380 operating the route for 6 of the 8 months between June and next January and, with Etihad not offering any kind of non-stop service on this route, Emirates is the only game in town.
