It’s increasingly looking like we’re not going to see a global promotion from Hyatt before next year as it looks like World of Hyatt is going down the path of regional and or niche promotions right now.
Coming a week after we saw Hyatt announce a double points promotion for select stays made in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, Hyatt is back with another double points promotion that covers all Mr & Mrs Smith properties that currently participate in the World of Hyatt.
The promotion
Earn double points when booking with 800+ Mr & Mrs Smith hotels participating in World of Hyatt through one of Hyatt’s booking portals. Registration is required and bonus points will be awarded on qualifying stays made between 1 October and 24 December 2024.
Key terms
- You must be a member of World of Hyatt in good standing and register for the promotion between October 1, 2024 and November 30, 2024 to participate.
- Only Eligible Stays at participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels completed after registration and between October 1, 2024 and December 24, 2024 will count towards this promotion.
- All Eligible Stays must be completed by December 24, 2024.
- Beginning on your first Eligible Stay at a participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotel after registration and during the Promotion Period, you will receive double points per Eligible Stay at participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels.
- For a property to be participating in the promotion, it needs to be participating in World of Hyatt at the time of the member’s reservation and stay.
- All points awarded under this promotion are Bonus Points.
- Under this promotion, you will receive five (5) Bonus Points per eligible dollar spent on your Eligible Stay. This is in addition to the five (5) Base Points you would earn as your base earning.
- For the purpose of this promotion, an “Eligible Stay” is defined as any stay where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award.
- Eligible Stays must be booked directly with Hyatt.
- Only the room occupied by the member will count toward this promotion.
- Except as expressly stated, this promotion is not valid with other offers, promotions or discounts.
Full terms and conditions can be found on the registration page.
Thoughts
There are three key things to point out right from the start:
Firstly, this double points promotion will not stack with the double points promotion that was launched back in September for stays everywhere except the Americas because that promotion specifically excluded Mr & Mrs Smith properties.
Secondly, only bookings made through Hyatt will qualify for this promotion and as we already know that some Mr & Mrs Smith properties can be cheaper when booked directly or through the Mr & Mrs Smith portal, it will be important to check that you’re not overpaying in order to earn the double points from this promotion.
Thirdly, this promotion is valid from the very first stay made after registration (and during the promotion period) and that makes it a little bit better than the other 2x promotion which excludes a member’s first stay.
Overall, it’s hard to get excited about this.
Yes, Mr & Mrs Smith bookings made through the Hyatt will earn 5 Hyatt points/dollar (just as regular Hyatt bookings do), earn World of Hyatt members their elite bonuses, earn World of Hyatt members elite night credits, and earn anyone who has linked their Hyatt account and American Airlines account AAdvantage miles (just as regular Hyatt bookings do), but that’s just about it.
Mr & Mrs Smith properties do not have to honor a lot of the benefits associated with the World of Hyatt (late check out, complimentary breakfast for Globalists, suite upgrades, etc…)*, and while Mr & Mrs Smith properties are now bookable with Hyatt points, award pricing is dynamic and pegged to the cash cost of the booking and that makes it hard to get outsized value from a points balance.
I guess we should be thankful that this promotion isn’t being restricted to one or two regions, that the first eligible stay in the promotion period will earn double points, that there’s no cap on earnings, and that the promotion running until almost the end of the year, but is this really a promotion that’s going to excite or engage World of Hyatt members?
I doubt it.
Those who already have already made bookings that will be eligible to earn double points will no doubt be happy with the bonus, and World of Hyatt fans who were already planning a trip this quarter may now check to see if it’s worth booking a Mr & Mrs Smith property rather than whatever other property they may have had in mind, but no one (in their right mind) will be making new plans just because of this promotion.
Hyatt has yet again published a promotion that’s no more interesting or engaging than anything IHG, Hilton or Marriott is offering and, in fact, it’s actually offering a lot of World Hyatt members considerably less than Marriott, IHG, and Hilton are offering their members because most properties in the Americas continue not to be eligible for any kind of bonus this quarter.
Sure, there’s still time for Hyatt to publish an offer specifically for the Americas that’s valid for stays this quarter, but given that all previous Hyatt 4Q promotions that I can remember were announced before the beginning of October, the chances of this happening look slim … and that’s a shame.

*Globalists are now entitled to a complimentary upgrade at check-in subject to availability.
Bottom line
Hyatt is now running a new double points promotion that’s specifically for Mr and Mrs Smith properties that are participating in the World of Hyatt program. Over 800 properties are included in this promotion and there are no regional restrictions, but given how many Hyatt properties in the Americas are still not eligible for any of the Hyatt promotions that are running into December, this isn’t really going to get too may Hyatt fans excited.
What do you think of the latest Hyatt 2x promotion?
