Chase is targeting select card holders for a deal in which it’s offering between 10,000 and 20,000 points for spending made through Chase Travel℠. There’s a minimum spend requirement of $500 and that spending needs to be made in a single transaction, but other than that, this looks like a pretty straightforward offer.
The targeted offer
Book your first trip with Chase Travel℠ and earn …
- 20,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points when purchasing a hotel stay or
- 10,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points when purchasing flights, car rentals, cruises activities and tours
All you have to do it this:
- Activate this offer (here)
- Book qualifying travel costing a minimum of $500 using your eligible credit card by 31 January 2025
- Complete travel by 31 August 2025
Be aware that this offer is only valid for eligible cardmembers who have not booked with Chase Travel℠/Ultimate Rewards® Travel since 15 August 2022.
Full terms and conditions (which you should read carefully) can be found on the offer page.
The targeting
I haven’t received an email from Chase telling me that I’ve been targeted for this promotion, so I didn’t know that this promotion even existed until MtM wrote about it.
I have, however, successfully registered for the promotion …
… so just because you haven’t heard from Chase doesn’t mean that you haven’t been targeted.
A quick look at the terms and conditions shows that anyone holding a credit card that earns Ultimate Rewards Points (even cash back cards whose points only give cardholders statement credits) may be eligible for this promotion, so if you haven’t booked through Chase travel since 15 August 2022, it worth checking to see if you’ve been targeted.
Thoughts
We value Ultimate Rewards points at 1.5 cents each (based on the value we know we can get out of them with little effort) so that means that this promotion is effectively offering me a rebate of $150 or $300, and that’s not to be ignored.
Better yet, if you hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and have been targeted, you should be able to stack the $50 Chase Travel℠ hotel credit that your card offers with this promotion, reducing the net amount you need to spend to trigger the promotion to $450*.
*You will still have to make sure that your booking is for at least $500, but as you’ll get a $50 credit, the net spend doesn’t have to be more than $450.
There are, however, two important things that need to be highlighted at this point.
Firstly, any hotel bookings made through Chase Travel℠ will be viewed as 3rd party bookings by the hotel and any loyalty program to which its attached, so these bookings will not be eligible for elite benefits, nor will they earn the guest any credits with the hotel’s loyalty program.
Secondly, be aware that booking through Chase Travel℠ isn’t always as cheap as booking with an airline or a hotel directly, so it’s important to make sure that you’re not overpaying just to trigger these points.
For example,
If you want to book the Kimpton Gray Hotel in Chicago for 14 – 15 June 2025, Chase will currently charge you $580 including all taxes and fees.
The same property booked through IHG.com on the same date will cost you $563 including all taxes and fees.
If you want to book the JW Marriott Los Angeles for 12 – 13 April 2025, Chase will currently charge you $660 including all taxes and fees.
The same property booked through Marriott.com on the same date will cost you $630 including all taxes and fees.
If you want to book the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter for 15 – 16 March 2025, Chase will currently charge you $350 including all taxes and fees.
The same property booked through Hilton.com on the same date will cost you $344 including all taxes and fees.
Sure, if you’re going to earn 20,000 points (an effective rebate of $300) through the booking, then swallowing a premium of between $6 and $30 (in these examples) isn’t really going to be a big issue, but because some of the price differences can be higher than this, you should always compare what Chase is charging with what the hotel is charging so you know how much extra (if anything) you’re paying to earn the bonus points from Chase.
In the interest of balance, I should point out that booking through Chase isn’t always more expensive than booking directly with the hotel.
Here for example is Chase charging $1,099 for a stay at the Park Hyatt New York on 17 May 2025 …
… and here’s Hyatt charging $1,206 for the same room on the same date.
This, however, is usually the exception rather than the rule, so be careful what you pay when booking through Chase Travel℠.
Something else to be aware of is that it’s possible that some people will have have multiple Chase cards that have been targeted for this offer, but as the the bonus points can only be earned once per card member, it could be important to make sure you attempt to activate this offer with the card that will earn you the most points for your booking (i.e. a Chase card that offer bonus points for travel spending) as once you activate the offer on one card, it may deactivate it (or make it unavailable) on all others.
Finally, keep in mind that you can use Ultimate Rewards points to part pay for your booking, but you will still need to make sure that you pay at least $500 in cash alongside whatever points you use in order to trigger this offer.
Bottom line
Chase is now targeting holders of various Ultimate Rewards earning cards for a promotion in which they can earn 10,000 bonus points for a single $500+ flight/rental car/cruise/activities/tours booking made through Chase Travel℠ or 20,000 bonus points for a single $500+ hotel booking made through Chase Travel℠.
There are a few key terms and conditions that you need to be aware of before you book, but on the whole, this looks like it could be a very nice offer to be targeted for.
