Chase’s partnership with DoorDash dates back to 2020 and since the partnership launched, several Chase-issued credit cards have offered DoorDash related benefits.
Recently, Chase announced that it was extending its partnership with DoorDash for a further three years, and alongside that announcement came the news that holders of select Chase cards would be getting a few extra benefits on top of the DashPass benefit that they already get.
Here’s what you need to know.
What is DoorDash?
DoorDash is a delivery service available in several countries, but the benefits related to Chase-issued cards are restricted, as far as we know, to the United States (there’s an outside chance they may work in Canada, but we’re not sure).
Primarily, DoorDash focuses on delivering food orders from restaurants, but it also offers deliveries from supermarkets, corner stores, and even select pet stores.
What is DashPass?
DashPass is a DoorDash membership that costs $9.99/month which ensures that the delivery service doesn’t charge members a delivery fee and it reduces the service fee on orders of $12 or more at eligible restaurants and $25 or more at eligible grocery stores.
Chase DashPass benefit & extensions
DashPass may cost $9.99, but some Chase credit cards offer cardholders a 3-month membership (and a reduced monthly fee after that), a 1-year membership, and even a multi-year complimentary membership included in their benefits package.
With Chase’s DoorDash partnership set to expire at the end of 2024, the bank has now confirmed that it is extending the DashPass benefit on its Sapphire, Freedom and Slate cards*.
Select Freedom cards will now offer a DashPass benefit through to the end of 2025, while the Sapphire cards will now offer a DashPass benefit through to the end of 2027.
*At the time of writing, Chase hasn’t announced what it plans to do with the DashPass benefit offered on select co-branded cards which, assuming the Chase website is correct, are still only valid through the end of 2024.
Freedom & Slate cards that offer 3 months free DashPass membership:
- Chase Freedom Flex℠ Credit Card
- Chase Freedom Unlimited®
- Chase Slate
- Chase Slate Edge℠
To benefit from this 3-month DashPass membership, cardholders must enroll by 31 January 2025, and they must not have used this benefit in the past.
After the 3-month period is up, cardholders may either cancel their membership or enjoy 50% off the membership fee for the following 9 months.
Sapphire cards that offer a multi-year DashPass membership:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Chase has announced that DashPass monthly membership will be complimentary for holders of these two cards through 31 December 2027.
Per Chase:
Cardmembers with active, free DashPass memberships will continue to receive the benefit through December 31, 2027.
New and existing Sapphire Reserve [and Sapphire Preferred] cardmembers who have not yet activated the DashPass benefit can enroll to receive a complimentary DashPass benefit through December 31, 2027, or a minimum of 12 months, dependent upon the activation date.
New/improved DoorDash benefits
As well as extending its partnership with DoorDash, Chase has announced that select cardholders will receive new and/or improved DoorDash benefits as part of their card’s offering.
Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card
Holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card will continue to receive the existing $5 monthly DoorDash in-app credit through 31 January 2025.
Beginning 1 February 2025, cardmembers will receive a new monthly benefit for $5 off restaurant orders on DoorDash.
In addition, cardholders with an activated Sapphire Reserve DashPass membership now receive two monthly credits of up to $10 each when they pay for grocery, convenience, or other non-restaurant orders on DoorDash.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Holders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card with an activated DashPass membership now receive one monthly credit of up to $10 when they pay for grocery, convenience, or other non-restaurant orders on DoorDash.
Chase Freedom and Slate cards
From 1 February 2025, new enrollees will receive six free months of DashPass, but Chase hasn’t mentioned if a reduced monthly fee will be offered for the following six months.
In addition, cardholders with an activated Freedom or Slate DashPass membership now receive one quarterly credit of up to $10 when they pay for grocery, convenience, or other non-restaurant orders on DoorDash.
Quick thoughts
Chase appears to be adding benefits here without taking anything away, so this is a win for cardholders.
For cardholders who use DoorDash with any kind of frequency, the extended memberships and new credits will represent genuine savings and will, effectively, reduce the net free that they pay to hold their card (assuming their card even charges an annual fee).
For everyone else, nothing much changes here so there’s no bad news to report.
It is, however, important to note that DashPass memberships auto renew at the prevailing rate after the end of a promotional period, so if you’re enjoying a free or discounted membership but don’t want to pay the full monthly fee, make sure you cancel your membership before it rolls over.
Bottom line
Chase has announced that it has extended its partnership with DoorDash through 2027 and it has confirmed that this means that select cardholders will have their DoorDash benefits extended and that holders of Sapphire, Freedom, and Slate cards will now receive promotional $10 credits which can be used when paying for grocery, convenience, or other non-restaurant orders on DoorDash.
It would be helpful if you could explain how existing card members could access this benefit.
