You may have noticed a number of 6 second teaser videos that British Airways has been posting on social media recently and you may have wondered what they were all about.

Some seemed to think that BA was going to unveil its new Business Class seat today while others speculated that the airline was going to announce a new route, more new aircraft or even changes to the British Airways Executive Club (that was always a very, very long shot).

Well, the waiting is over, and it’s none of the above. The teasers that we have been seeing were just the lead up to the new British Airways commercial which celebrates the airline’s 100th birthday….and here it is:

The commercial features a number of famous British stars from the world of sports, movies, TV, music and science and it has been set out as a letter from the airline to Britain.

I couldn’t help but smile at the idea that the likes of Gary Oldman, Anthony Joshua and Grayson Perry would ever book into Premium Economy but, the unrealistic passenger seating aside, you’d have to be pretty miserable to dislike the commercial – its harmless.

Unlike some of the airline’s safety videos this video is relatively short at just a minute and a half long so watching in won’t eat up to much of your time and, if the video leaves you wanting a bit more, there’s also a behind the scenes video you can watch too (2mins 48 sec):

Bottom Line

I suspected that the “big reveal” wasn’t going to be anything too dramatic when I realised that the announcement would fall on the same day as the oneworld alliance meets in London to celebrate its own birthday – I figured Alex Cruz wouldn’t want the distractions of oneworld on the same day as his airline was announcing something big – so I had my expectations at about the right level for this announcement….but I think that others may have been expecting more.

Was this what you were expecting from BA today or are you disappointed?….and even if you are disappointed, what do you think of the commercial?

  1. It was all going so well until Olivia Colman thumped another passenger in the head while putting her suitcase into the overhead locker. She delivered her line before delivering an extremely insincere “sorry”, emblematic of all that is wrong with air travel today.
