I’m not much of a cold weather person (I scuba dive and my skiing is atrocious) and I can’t say that I’m a particularly big fan of Christmas (forced levity is tedious and the stores are so crowded it’s enough to make the most gregarious person turn agoraphobic) but there’s something about a Christmas market that I like…and BA is now offering some good deals to various European Christmas markets for the holiday season.

Per BA these are the Christmas market deals on offer right now:

Berlin (26 November – 26 December) From £149pp

British Airways Holidays offers two nights at the 3* Days Inn Berlin West, from £149 per person, travelling November 27 to December 26. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Heathrow and accommodation. Book by October 31.

I’ve prices close to the quoted £149pp….

…but that was for 3 nights in midweek. If you want to take in a weekend the better prices are in the region of £219pp:

Innsbruck (15 November – 23 December) From £179pp

British Airways Holidays offers two nights at the 4*Alphotel Innsbruck, from  £179 per person, travelling November 15 to January 6. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Gatwick and accommodation with breakfast. Book by October 31.

I’ve actually found the Alphotel priced marginally cheaper than the BA promotion suggests….

…but that was for midweek nights. Over a weekend the better rates are in the region of £288pp for the same hotel.

Nuremberg (1 December – 24 December) From £209pp

British Airways Holidays offers three nights at the 4* NH Forsthaus Fürth Nürnberg hotel, from £209 per person, travelling between December 1 and December 24. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Gatwick and accommodation. Book by October 31.

You can get 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Express for less than the promotion shows….

…but then that’s not a 4* hotel.

In my quick search I couldn’t even find a rate for the hotel in the BA promotion but other 4* hotels appear to be costing between £253pp and £310pp midweek and comfortably over £300 on weekends.

Prague (2 December – 6 January) From £129pp

British Airways Holidays offers two nights at the 4* Duo, from £129 per person, travelling December 2 to January 6. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Heathrow and accommodation with breakfast. Book by October 31.

Once again a random date search pulled up the advertised hotel for less than the promotion price so this bodes well if you’ll looking to head to Prague (which, by the way, can be stunning in winter)

Stockholm (November 19 to December 23) From £159pp

British Airways Holidays offers two nights at the 3* Scandic Prince Philip, from £159 per person, travelling November 18 to December 23. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Heathrow and accommodation with breakfast. Book by October 31.

I found availability at the Scandic Prince for close to the advertised rate….

….but the thing that stood out for me was how most of the Stockholm hotels on the BA site either had poor TripAdvisor reviews, very few TripAdvisor reviews or no reviews at all. I’d be tempted to find cheap flights and to select my hotel separately if I was looking to go to Stockholm.

Vienna (November 18 to December 30, 2017) from £129pp

British Airways Holidays offers two nights at the 3* Donauwalzer hotel, from £129 per person, travelling November 18 to December 23. Includes Euro Traveller return flights from Heathrow and accommodation. Book by October 31.

I couldn’t find the advertised property at anywhere near £129pp so either that’s a typo by BA or it’s available on so few nights that it’s not really worth mentioning.

The better midweek rates seems to hover around £146pp for a two night stay….

…while at weekends the rates are considerably higher – closer to £300pp at the lower end.

Something To Keep In Mind

By all means search through these deals if you’re looking to book a Christmas market break…but don’t limit your research to these deals.

You can still get some pretty cheap “flight-only” fares to some of the cities being mentioned….

…so, if you have a decent balance of  hotel points, you may be able to use those to (a) save some cash and (b) stay in a better class hotel than the cheaper BA Holiday offers will get you.
