Back in February British Airways announced that it was pushing back its proposed move from Gatwick North to Gatwick South. The terminal swap with easyJet would no longer happen in November of this year and, instead, the move would go ahead in January 2017.

Well, it would seem as if things are still on course for the January move.

British Airways has reiterated that, from 25 January 2017, it will be moving all of its flights from Gatwick’s North Terminal to the airline’s new home in the South Terminal and it will be testing out the new facilities at Gatwick South with a single flight in November.

On 23 November flight BA2776 from Gatwick to Jersey will be the first BA flight to depart Gatwick’s South terminal so, if you’re booked on that flight, don’t go to the North terminal as your plane won’t be there!

British Airways has also confirmed that it will be opening a new and updated check-in area at Gatwick South which has been designed to offer easier access to public transport. One of the benefits of the move to the South terminal will be that passengers arriving on the Gatwick Express will no longer have to use the monorail to get to their terminal.

More importantly, at least for some, there will be a new British Airways Galleries Lounge at Gatwick South….but there won’t be any separate facility for First Class passengers.

While the First Class lounge at Gatwick North was nothing special – it was actually pretty bleak – it could still be a haven from the often overcrowded Business Class lounge that BA offered.

Bottom Line

It’s good to see BA is still on track to move terminals in January as a lot of flyers I’ve spoken to recently have just about had enough of the temporary lounge provisions that have been bade in Gatwick North.

The No. 1 Lounge that British Airways is using in place of its own lounges at Gatwick North has not been a suitable solution at all. The lounge is usually incredibly overcrowded and there have been numerous reports of flyers being turned away…in some cases even if they had pre-booked their spot online in advance.

I think it’s safe to say that the last few months haven’t been a good time for BA’s premium cabin flyers at Gatwick so the sooner this terminal move is completed the better.
