This is like something out of the Walking Dead. It’s the fare that just won’t die. Granted, it keeps getting a bit more expensive each time it reappears but the price is still pretty great.

For those of you wondering what I’m going on about here’s a quick recap:

British Airways has, over the past 6 months-or-so, posted some great fares between Germany and Hong Kong. Earlier in the year the fares were under $1,550 (£1,000/€1,350) for a return trip and just 10 days ago they reappeared (at $1,800/£1,160/€1,578) for just 48hours. Now the fares are back again but this time there doesn’t appear to be an obvious end date to the fare.

The best price fare I’m seeing right now is for $1,971 (£1,305/€1,750) and, while that’s definitely more than before, it’s still not bad….and availability is plentiful.

As usual I found the fares using the ITA Matrix search engine so, if you want to recreate any of the information you’ll find below, that’s where you should start. If you’re new to the Matrix search and need a helping hand, check out my two posts on how to use the search tool on the “useful info” page.

Depending on what day you choose to depart there are a good choice of trip lengths. As you can see from the day I selected at random, the fare is available for all but one of my selections.

Availability:

I’m not going to reproduce the availability for each month….but take my word that there’s lots of it out there.

The nice thing about this set of fares is that they’re available over Easter and summer:

With the 90-day advance purchased rule the earliest dates available (as of today) are right at the end of December. If you’re looking to get away from the European winter for a few days then BA has you covered….

The British Airways Business Class Offering

The flights that really matter (for the purposes of these trips) are the long-haul flights between London and Hong Kong – and those will be on British Airways Airbus A380 aircraft.

As it happens, I’ll be posting a review of Club World on a British Airways A380 tomorrow so come back for that if you haven’t tried the product before (now posted HERE). For now here’s a British Airways promotional photo of a Club World seat in their A380:

As I mentioned earlier there are two things to be careful about with these fares:

  1. Don’t accidentally book yourself on to an unnecessarily long trip – there are plenty of options that come in at under 20 hours.
  2. Remember the 90-day advance booking rule. If you’re thinking about flying in early January don’t delay too long or your window will close.

Anyone thinking of booking these flights? More importantly has anyone passed up on the 3-4 opportunities we’ve already had to book the Germany-Hong Kong fares and is now thinking that they may go after all? 🙂

    • I haven’t had a chance to look at all the months the fare is around for but, taking March as an example, you can do 4 night trips from the 7th, 14th and 21st which don’t require Saturday night stays.
