Alaska Airlines has recent history of bolstering its presence in California and that presence is soon going to be bolstered even further when the airline introduces three new SoCal routes later this year.
New Alaska Airlines SoCal routes
From this fall, Alaska Airlines will operate the following new routes year-round:
- San Diego – Las Vegas
- Los Angeles – Reno
- Los Angeles – Pasco/Kennewick
All three routes will launch on 1 October 2024, and this is what the schedules currently show:
San Diego – Las Vegas
AS3314 SAN 08:00 – 09:20 LAS (Mon, Thu, Fri & Sun)
AS3314 SAN 08:30 – 09:50 LAS (Tue, Wed, & Sat)
AS2361 SAN 12:50 – 14:10 LAS (Mon, Thu, Fri & Sun)
AS3428 SAN 16:55 – 18:15 LAS (Mon, Thu, Fri, & Sun)
AS3427 SAN 20:55 – 22:15 LAS (Daily)
AS3320 LAS 07:12 – 08:20 SAN (Daily)
AS3314 LAS 10:00 – 11:08 SAN (Mon, Thu, Fri & Sun)
AS2362 LAS 15:00 – 16:08 SAN (Mon, Thu, Fri & Sun)
AS3428 LAS 18:56 – 20:04 SAN (Mon, Thu, Fri, & Sun)
AS3428 LAS 17:00– 18:08 SAN (Tue, Wed, & Sat)
The Alaska Airlines press release indicates that this route will be operated 4x/week, but the winter schedule currently shows what you see above (4 flights on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays and 2 flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays).
Los Angeles – Reno
AS3419 LAX 11:05 – 12:29 RNO (Daily)
AS3420 LAX 19:49 – 21:13 RNO (Daily)
AS3421 RNO 07:00 – 08:46 LAX (Daily)
AS3419 RNO 13:10 – 14:56 LAX (Daily)
Technically, this isn’t a new route for Alaska Airlines as it flew between LA and Reno during summer 2023, but as this is now a year-round route and not just seasonal, I guess we can be generous and call it ‘new’.
Los Angeles – Pasco
AS3303 LAX 19:55 – 22:30 PSC (Daily)
AS3304 PSC 07:00 – 09:51 LAX (Daily)
I must confess that I had no idea where Pasco was until I googled it and discovered that its in Washington and that it is a centre for “outdoor recreation”. This new route may tempt me to go see what it’s like 🙂
The aircraft
All three of these new routes will be operated by SkyWest Airlines as AlaskaSkyWest using Embraer ERJ 175 aircraft.
Per the seat maps on the Alaska Airlines website, the ERJ175 offers 12 First Class seats in a 1-2 layout, 16 Premium Class seats in a 2-2 layout, and 44 regular Economy Class seats in a 2-2 layout.
According to SeatGuru.com these are the seat dimensions on this aircraft:
- First Class – Pitch 37″/Width 21″
- Premium Cabin – Pitch 34″/Width 18.25″
- Economy Cabin – Pitch 30″/Width 18.25″
The truth is that the seat dimensions probably won’t really matter very much on the Las Vegas or Reno routes as the flight time is unlikely to ever go much over ~100 minutes.
On the Pasco route, however, where the flight is noticeably longer, the 30″ pitch in the Economy Class cabin could be problematic if you are tall or ‘large’.
Bottom line
Alaska Airlines will launch three new year-round services form Southern California this fall as it links San Diego with las Vegas and Los Angeles with Reno and Pasco.
Fares for all three routes are now loaded in the Alaska Airlines systems but at the time of writing, award seats have yet to appear.
