Today has seen Qatar Airways launch a couple of promotions for departures from Europe which may offer good value if you’re prepared to book in the next few days. The promotions cover dates well into next year (one covers travel through the end of June 2025), so there should be scope for quite a few people to make the most of these offers.

• Savings apply only when all flights on the booking are of the same booking class.

Quick thoughts

Just like all Qatar Airways discount promotions, the amount that you can save varies from route to route and by the cabin being booked, but the discounts are definitely there and some of the savings can be significant.

Be aware that there are blackout dates associated with this promotion and these dates will vary (slightly) depending on where your trip originates.

E.g. these are the blackout dates for departures from the UK:

• Departing LHR, MAN, LGW, BHX
  • Outbound – 12.12.24 to 23.12.24, 05.07.25 to 10.08.25
  • Inbound – 01.01.25 to 13.01.25, 15.08.25 to 04.09.25
• Departing EDI
  • Outbound – 12.12.24 to 23.12.24, 13.06.25 to 04.08.25
  • Inbound – 01.01.25 to 13.01.25, 01.07.25 to 04.09.25

While these are the blackout dates for departures from Oslo:

• Outbound – 16.12.24 to 28.12.24, 13.06.25 to 20.07.25
• Inbound – 29.12.24 to 08.01.25, 14.07.25 to 20.08.25

So make sure you check the blackout dates for your chosen departure point and if you can, consider a different departure point if you find the blackout dates interfere with your plans.

Note: Given that the promotion supposedly only covers travel through 30 June 2025, I’m not sure why Qatar Airways has published blackout dates into July and August 2025.

Keep in mind that fares from Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki are often noticeably cheaper that the fares offered from central Europe or the UK, so even if you don’t need to circumvent the blackout date rules, searching for departures from these cities may result in you seeing better deals.

Also, there’s one seemingly small thing in the terms of which you need to take note – ‘Savings apply only when all flights on the booking are of the same booking class‘.

This means that you won’t trigger any savings on offer if you mix fare codes, so as Qatar Airways has often been known to offer mixed fare code itineraries on quite a few routes, you’ll need to make sure that whatever fare you’re looking at offers the same fare code on all segments.

Lastly, be aware that while these savings are only offered for departures for European countries, you don’t have to have a Qatar Airways account registered in one of those counties to participate.

If you reside outside of Europe but can easily (and cheaply) travel to a participating location, you can lock in the savings too.

Get 10,000 bonus Avios on Business & First Class bookings

• Bonus Avios will be credited after the flight, provided the membership number is updated in the booking.
• Members will earn bonus Avios on the based on the cabin of travel of the first leg of their ticket.

Quick thoughts

We value Avios at 1.0 cents each so, effectively, this promotion is offering us a rebate of $100 (~£75/€90) which, for someone who was planning a trip anyway, should be a nice bonus.

It’s going to be an even nicer bonus if you can use those Avios to cover the cost of an otherwise expensive short-haul flight, as the value eked out of each Avios can be considerably higher under those conditions (we could probably get over $250/£190/€225 on some of the routes we fly).

There don’t appear to be any blackout dates for this promotion but make sure you note that this deal is only valid on flights taken through 31 March 2025, so the 10k bonus Avios offer won’t stack with all flights covered by the 20% off sale.

If you have US-issued credit cards

Make sure you get an even better deal out of whatever trips you book by using a credit card that gives you a good return on your travel spending and, preferably, one that also comes with good travel protections (just in case!)

The Platinum Card® from American Express offers 5 points/dollar on up to $500,000 of spending made directly with airlines or flights booked through Amex Travel (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply) and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® earns a very respectful 3 points/dollar for just about all travel spending, so with both of these cards offering excellent trip delay, interruption, and cancellation protections, they would be my go-to choices for booking flights in this sale

I should also add that the American Express® Green Card earns 3 points/dollar for just about all travel spending, but because it doesn’t offer the same level of protection as the Platinum Card or the Sapphire Reserve, I don’t think it’s as good an option as the more premium cards.

Bottom line

For the next seven days, Qatar Airways is running a couple of promotions which look quite good. The first promotion is offering up to 20% off flights (in all classes) departing from cities around Europe and taken by the end of June 2025, while the second promotion is offering 10,000 bonus Avios on Business and First Class flights taken by the end of March 2025.
