British Airways is sending out emails to Executive Club members in the US and UK offering $70 or £50 off their next long-haul booking with the airline. There are a few restrictions on how and when the promotion code can be used but, on the whole, this looks like an easy way to save some cash if you’re prepared to book with BA.

Headline Terms & Conditions

These are the US T&Cs but they’re very similar to the UK T&Cs which you’ll find here

  • The Promotion code “BAMember70” is only eligible to Executive Club Members in the US.
  • Subject to the conditions set out in these terms and conditions, the Promotion Code “BAMember70” entitles US Executive Club Members to $70 off per person of the published fare of any long haul British Airways marketed and operated flights. The Promotion Code is off the total price including taxes, fees and carrier charges.
  • The Promotion Code is valid on:
    • Flight bookings for travel from April 21, 2018 to October 27, 2018.
    • BA marketed and operated flights only. The Promotion Code does not apply to travel on any BA franchisee or oneworld alliance airline, or any flight operated by a codeshare partner. Minimum spend of $71 per person must be met for the Promotion Code to work.
    • All cabins and all selling classes.
    • One booking of up to a total of 9 passengers. Only one booking per Promotion Code can be made.
    • The discount is applicable to bookings for children and infants, when contained on the same booking as an adult.
  • The Promotion Code is not valid on:
    • Avios part payment bookings.
    • Redemption bookings.
    • Industry discounted fares (including agency, industry, employee discounts) inclusive holidays, group discount fares, child/infant fares or senior citizen fares, whether booked in one of the qualifying classes.
    • Bookings made with any other vouchers/Promotion Codes.
    • Upgrades.
    • Any BA staff friends and family offers (for example, Hotlines).
  • In order to use the Promotion Code, Executive Club Members must make a booking between 12.00 GMT April 20, 2018 and 23:59 GMT April 23, 2018.
  • Bookings can be made in one of three ways:
    • Entering the Promotion Code into the “Promotion Code” field on the Price Quote page of the ba.com booking form. NOT the e-voucher field.
    • Calling 1-800-452-1201 and quoting the Promotion Code to the telephone operator prior to payment. Bookings made over the telephone are subject to a £5 non-refundable booking fee.
    • Via your local, preferred participating travel agent by quoting the Promotion Code to your travel agent.
  • The Promotion Code is not available for bookings made through other channels (for example, at the airport).

The full US terms and conditions can be found on the US promotion page.

Important Things To Note

If you attempt to search for a flight in the normal way and input the promotion code in a normal way there’s a very good chance that you’ll get an error message like this:

a screenshot of a computer

This is because the BA IT department is notoriously terrible.

To ensure the discount is applied properly (and that you don’t get an error message) you have to use the flight search links on the promotion pages:

US Promotion Page

UK Promotion Page

Also, and although it’s not expressly mentioned in the terms and conditions, the US discount only works if you’re departing from the US and you’re logged in as a US BAEC member and the UK discount only works if you’re logged in as a UK BAEC member and departing from the UK.

Lastly, don’t forget that the discounts are only valid on British Airways marketed and operated flights so booking a BA codeshare on an American Airlines flight won’t work.

Thoughts

If you were planning to book flights on BA for travel in the coming months this could be a nice discount for you.

The T&Cs say that the discount is only valid once per booking but there’s nothing stopping a family from making multiple bookings for the same flights to maximise their savings.

Note: If only one member of the family has status and you want to make the most of that status for all family members (seat selection, baggage allowance etc…) you shouldn’t split the reservations.

Don’t forget that the promotion ends on Monday 23 April 2018.
