If you’re thinking of making a Marriott booking and you like collecting American Airlines AAdvantage miles than this is your lucky day – you can currently earn 10 miles per dollar on Marriott bookings when you click through the AAdvantage eShopping portal.

I value AAdvantage miles at a conservative 1.2 cents each (others may value them higher) so, by my valuation, this is essentially a 12% rebate on Marriott stays.

That’s makes it a very nice deal….just not as nice as the 12% cash back deal we saw from eBates on IHG bookings last week as cash in your hand is always better than the equivalent value of miles and points (at least that’s how I feel).

Things to Note

  • When booking, don’t use any discount codes that aren’t available on the AAdvantage eShopping site as these are likely to stop the miles from posting.
  • The miles will only be awarded on Marriott bookings so gift card purchases will not earn you any AAdvantage Miles.
  • Don’t make a Marriott booking just because of this deal – yes, an effective rebate of 12% is very nice but it’s not a good deal if you end up making a booking and spending money you wouldn’t otherwise have spent.

Bottom Line

Clicking through the AAdvantage eShopping portal won’t have any effect on the elite benefits you receive or the Marriott Bonvoy Elite Night credits or redeemable points you can earn so this is genuinely a very good offer indeed.

We don’t know how long this offer will last (it may disappear after today) so don’t take too long deciding if you’d like to participate.

    • That’s a very good question and one to which I don’t have a definitive answer…but here’s my thinking:

When booking an AAA/AARP rate on the Marriott site you don’t enter a promo code to get the discount so I *think* we should be ok. I believe the exclusions are specifically for promo codes entered on the Marriott site that aren’t available on the eShopping portal.
