Thoughts

The first offer (for $200 of spending) is one that I can see targeted to my Amex Membership Rewards credit cards and which doesn’t appear to be targeted to any of my Amex co-branded cards or my Amex business cards (YMMV).

The second offer (for $350 of spending) I can see targeted to card_name (review) and doesn’t appear to have been targeted to any of my Amex consumer cards (YMMV).

Overall, there’s quite a bit of good news here.

Firstly, I’m seeing the offer for a $75 rebate on card_name (as well as on other consumer cards) which means that not only can I get a rebate of up to 37.5% on my next Delta booking, but also that I can earn 5 points/dollar on that booking too (terms apply) – that’s a double bonus.

Secondly, the wording of both offers suggests that the spending target (low as it is) doesn’t have to be hit in a single transaction for the rebate to be triggered. As long as a cardholder makes $200/$350 of eligible spending on their targeted card(s) by the end of September, the rebate(s) will be paid.

Thirdly, both of these rebates can be triggered by spending made on purchases other than airfares. Both sets of terms and conditions confirm that spending made directly with Delta on fare upgrades, seat selection fees, baggage fees, standby fees, and Delta Sky Club memberships will trigger the rebates – so that should make these offers pretty easy to use.

Fourthly, as these are two separate offers, anyone who has been targeted for both can load both to their chosen cards and earn both rebates – I have loaded the $75 offer to card_name and the $100 offer to card_name without any issues.

On the downside, these offers will only work for travel originating in the US (which is a little disappointing), and because only spending made directly with Delta will trigger the rebates, holders of card_name who have been targeted for the $100 rebate offer will not be able to earn 5 points/dollar (this card only earns 5 points/dollar on flights booked through Amex Travel – terms apply).

Bottom line

Amex is currently targeting holders of select consumer and business cards for two separate offers for eligible spending made directly with Delta Airlines. Targeted cardholders can earn $75 and $100 rebates on eligible spending made by the end of September 2022 and as this eligible spending doesn’t have to be made in a single transaction, these offers should have broad appeal.
