All Nippon Airways (ANA) has said that it will be implementing “a series of comprehensive enhancements designed to improve passenger comfort and satisfaction on all international routes” throughout 2019.

Based on the information provided by ANA these enhancements will take the form of improved in-flight dining options across all cabins and improved amenities in premium cabins.

ANA In-Flight Dining Enhancements

ANA is planning to (finally) expand its meal pre-selection options beyond just Mileage Club members traveling in Business Class.

From 1 March 2019 all Business Class passengers will have the option to pre-select meals on the ANA website up to 24-hours before departure. In addition, travelers will have the choice of meals from an improved selection of Japanese and international dishes as compared to the rather limited choice available right now.

On flights between Japan and North American (excluding Hawaii*), Europe, Southeast Asia, and India, Business Class passengers will have the option to pre-order the full range of available dishes from ANA’s premium “The Connoisseurs” collaboration meal program which has been created in partnership with elite chefs from across the world.

In addition to the changes in the food the tableware will be changing too. From 1 March 2019 the dishware for First and Business Class Japanese cuisine will be upgraded “in order for customers to enjoy a meal that is stimulating both visually and gastronomically“.

The in-flight dining changes won’t be limited to First and Business Class – changes are coming to Premium Economy and Economy Class too.

From April, customers in Premium Economy and Economy Class on routes to North America (excluding Hawaii*) and Europe will also see their options improved. Flyers in both cabins will be able to upgrade their meals to a premium meal option for ¥2,500 (~$23) up to 24-hours before departure.

ANA In-Flight Amenity Enhancements

From 1 March 2019 ANA will be offering upgraded “sleepwear” and amenities in its First and Business Class cabins as part of the airlines 2019 enhancements.

Per ANA:

First Class passengers will receive top-of-the-line feather comforters from Nishikawa Sangyo designed to boost breathability and heat retention. The new pillow features white duck down from Hungary that absorbs and releases moisture, maximizing comfort. Both the comforter and pillow covers are made from 100 percent Egyptian cotton. A new blanket and cardigan will also be available for First Class passengers.

  1. For a fairly simple improvement, they might offer more choices on their IFE system, although food improvements in first class wouldn’t hurt.
