Update 2 December 2020: The promotion is now live – what gift did you get?
American Airlines has announced that it will be sending each and every member of the AAdvantage program a gift this festive season and members of the program who are based in the United States will be entered into a draw to win six mega prizes.
Gifts For All
From today, 2 December, all American Airlines AAdvantage members will receive a gift simply for being a part of the program. To receive a prize, members are being asked to register for the promotion and, following registration, members will virtually unwrap gifts ranging from award miles to a complimentary Main Cabin Extra seat to an Admirals Club One-Day Pass.
AAdvantage members will be receiving an email with a link to the promotion center where they will be able to reveal their gift or, as the promotion is now live, they can log in to their AAdvantage accounts and navigate to the “Promotions tab” where the promotion should be available:

However, you almost certainly won’t have to wait up to 24 hours to see how many miles you’ve been awarded as mine appeared in my account almost instantly:
For reference, I received 250 bonus miles as a gift (I hold AAdvantage Platinum status) while Joanna and MJ (neither of whom has any status) both received 100 bonus miles.
As well as a free gift (and following registration), all AAdvantage members will also receive an offer which American Airlines says will “encourage them to take the skies in early 2021”. This is the offer I’ve received:
Earn double miles from January 1 – February 28, 2021:
- Register by December 16, 2020, and before creating a flight reservation
- After you’re registered, book 6 qualifying, eligible flights for travel on or after January 1, 2021
- Earn double award miles after completing those flights and any additional eligible flights through February 28, 2021
When the promotion was announced yesterday I suspected that the offer would offer bonus AAdvantage Miles for booking/traveling by a specific date, but I didn’t expect to have to book 6 flights just to earn double miles. I’ll be taking a pass on this “deal”.
US-Specific Promotion
All US-based AAdvantage members (i.e. members whose accounts list their primary address as being in the United States) will automatically be entered into a sweepstake which will produce six winners. Each of the six winners will receive:
- 500,000 AAdvantage Miles
And one of the following:
- An all-inclusive 4-night stay for two at a Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara Resort (5 prizes)
- A 3-night stay for up to 4 people at Universal Orlando Resort and park passes for all (1 prize)
Before anyone asks, I have no idea if the Hyatt resort stays will earn a guest elite night credits 🙂

Bottom Line
As of today, all American Airlines AAdvantage members will be receiving a gift (of one sort or another) from American Airlines. As well as their gift, US-based Advantage members will also be entered into a sweepstake in which six people will earn half a million AAdvantage miles and a hotel/resort stay.
