From 2 June 2016 American Airlines will begin daily service between Dallas Fort Worth and Santa Barbara California.

The route will be operated by a Mesa Airlines CRJ900 aircraft on the following schedule:

AA5679 DFW 10:50 – 12:38 SBA (Daily)
AA5679 SBA 14:14 – 19:30 DFW (Daily)

American Airlines flys CRJ900s with 3 different cabin layouts and, a cursory look at the seat map offered up by AA.com, would seem to indicate that this route is to be flown by an aircraft with the more comfortable of layouts – i.e it comes with a few Main Cabin Extra seats in Economy Class.

Here’s the seat map per SeatGuru:

And these are the seat dimensions you can expect to find:

I’m not sure SeatGuru is entirely correct with a count of 31 Main Cabin Extra Seats as American Airlines appears to block row 4. As you can’t reserve those at the time of booking they’re not much good to those of us who can reserve seats, for free, in advance:

American Airlines Deploys 767 On Miami – Las Vegas Route

Between 3 March and 1 June 2016 American Airlines will be providing a wide-body service between Miami and Las Vegas using a Boeing 767 aircraft (replacing a 737 aircraft).

As things stand American Airlines operates four daily flights between the two cities using a combination of 737 and A321 aircraft. As of today, however, the morning flights out of Miami and Las Vegas will feature the considerably larger Boeing 767 aircraft.

Miami Departures:

  • AA1409 MIA 07:10 – 09:47 LAS (Daily 767 service)
  • AA711 MIA 17:20 – 19:56 LAS (Daily A321 service)
  • AA1470 MIA 20:19 – 23:00 LAS (Daily 737 service)
  • AA2203 MIA 21:44 – 00:25+1 day LAS (Daily 737 service)

Las Vegas Departures:

  • AA1279 LAS 11:25 – 18:59 MIA (Daily 767 service)
  • AA989 LAS 13:05 – 20:41 MIA (Daily 737 service)
  • AA714 LAS 22:05 – 05:30+1 day MIA (Daily A321 service)
  • AA217 LAS 23:59 – 07:25+1 day MIA (Daily 737 service)

UPDATE: As of 8 March 2016 all of American’s 767 Aircraft have now been refitted with the new cabins so you can ignore the seating information below.

It would appear that the aircraft that American Airlines will be using for this route is one of the non-refurbished 767 aircraft that they still have. The giveaway is the Business Class cabin (sold as a domestic First Class cabin) which, on a refurbished 767 is set out in a 1-2-1 layout while the seat map for this aircraft still shows the old-style 2-2-2 layout:

This means that the Business Class seats will be the old angled-flat recliner seats similar to, but slightly narrower than, those seen on the old 777-200 aircraft. They may be old and they may not be fully lie-flat but this is still a massive upgrade from what American Airlines offers on the other aircraft operating this route.

Economy Class passengers won’t see too much difference between what they were getting on the 737 and what they’ll now receive on the 767….except that the 767 probably won’t have WiFi on board. The Economy Class seats on both aircraft offer just 31″ of seat pitch (leg room) and are just 17″ wide…not the most comfortable of seats in which to fly across the country.
