When it comes to hotel partners, American Express usually favors Marriott and Hilton, but we’ve been seeing more Hyatt offers appearing in recent months and a good new Hyatt offer appears to have been published today.

Spend $400 and get $100 at Hyatt’s Unbound Collection

• Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 9/15/2024, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.
• Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account.

Quick thoughts

There are four key things to note here:

• Based on the wording in the terms and conditions, it looks like the $400 spending target does not need to be met in one transaction. Multiple transactions that add up to $400 or more will end up triggering the statement credit.
• The Unbound Collection doesn’t contain a significant number of properties right now so there are just 35 participating properties in this offer.
• The offer is valid at properties around the world and not just the Americas (as is usually the case with so many Amex offers). Needless to say, not every Unbound Collection property in the US, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Europe and Asia may trigger this offer so make sure you check the list of participating properties before you book.
• Make sure you book directly with Hyatt or an individual property – bookings through 3rd party channels will not count.

Overall, the best Amex card to use with this offer will probably be the card_name which returns 3 points/dollar on travel spending (terms apply), but as that’s a card that I do not (yet) hold, I’m going to have to make do with adding it to card_name which will earn me just 1 point/dollar (terms apply).

Ordinarily and in the absence a card that will earn me a category spending bonus, I would use the card_name for an offer such as this one (it earns me 2 points/dollar on the first $50,000 of spending every year and 1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply), but as this card charges foreign transaction fees I’m going to have to settle for using card_name unless I’m booking a US property.

Bottom line

American Express is currently targeting select cardholders for a $100 saving when they spend $400 or more (in one or more transactions) at Hyatt Unbound Collection properties in various locations around the world.

Based on how many of my Amex cards are showing this offer this doesn’t appear to be a narrowly targeted deal, so if you have an upcoming stay at an eligible Unbound Collection property (or if you’re planning a stay in a location that has a participating Unbound Collection property), make sure you check your Amex offers to see if you could save $100.
