American Express has launched two new offers which between them, cover all MGM properties across the United States. Both offers valid for stays that are paid for by 30 November 2024 and both offers allow the spending target to be reached using multiple transactions.

Offer 1 – Save at Aria, Bellagio and the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas

Get a one-time $140 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $700 in one or more purchases on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay at ARIA®, Bellagio®, and The Cosmopolitan™ of Las Vegas from 8/28/2024 to 11/30/2024.

Thoughts

Between the two promotions it looks like all MGM properties in the United States are covered and both promotions offer a maximum rebate of 20%.

A key thing to note here is that because the offers are only applicable to bookings made ‘through MGM Resorts online at mgmresorts.com, by phone, or via mobile app‘, it’s unlikely that a Bonvoy member who triggers this offer by booking a ‘MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy’ property, will earn elite night credits, Bonvoy points, or the bonus Bonvoy points that are on offer though the two promotions launched yesterday (here and here).

This is the wording from the MGM/Bonvoy page:

‘A Qualifying Stay for Marriott Bonvoy® Members to earn Marriott Bonvoy® Points at included MGM Resorts destinations are stays booked through Marriott.com (including Award Redemption Stays), Marriott Bonvoy App, and the Marriott Customer Engagement Centers. Select prevailing rates booked through the MGM Resorts Call Center, and participating MGM Resorts Travel Agents may also be Qualifying Stays’.

‘Stays booked through the following methods at MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy® Destinations are not considered Qualifying Stays:

• MGM Resorts websites
• MGM Rewards Mobile App
• MGM Rewards website
• MGM Resorts Call Center (non-prevailing rates such as casino offers, MGM Rewards member discounts, etc.)’

A possible exception to this may occur if a phone reservation made through MGM is considered to be a ‘non-prevailing’ rate, as that appears to qualify for Bonvoy earnings.

I have no idea how you find out if a phone booking is using a prevailing or non-prevailing rate (ask if you call), but just keep in mind that any online bookings made through Bonvoy will not trigger either of these offers, and any online booking made through MGM will not earn Bonvoy points or elite night credits.

Overall, I don’t think either of these offers will make anyone rush out to book a previously unplanned stay, but if you were considering a visit to Vegas (or any other US location with an MGM property), these offers may tempt you into an MGM booking … just keep an eye on the horrendous resort fees a lot of these properties charge.

Which credit card?

In my account, both offers have been targeted to the Platinum Card® from American Express and the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express, while only the second offer as been targeted to the Business Platinum Card® from American Express. I’m not seeing either offer on my Bonvoy co-branded card.

I have chosen to load both offers to the Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (review) as it earns me 2 points/dollar on up to $50,000 of eligible spending per year (1 point/dollar thereafter – terms apply) and that’s double what either of the other cards would earn me.

Others, however, may be able to do better. If you’ve been targeted for this offer on your American Express® Green Card, for example, you can use that card to earn 3 points/dollar on most travel spending and that includes stays at hotels around the globe (terms apply).

Bottom line

Two new targeted offers for stays at MGM properties in the United States have gone live this morning, so anyone planning a break to Vegas or any other US location with an MGM property should check their online accounts. Marriott Bonvoy members hoping to stack these offers with the Bonvoy promotions announced yesterday should read the terms and conditions of these offers very carefully.
