United Airlines Adding European Routes To Newark & Dulles

United Airlines has announced that it will be adding seasonal services between New York/Washington and Europe for the 2016 summer. While all services are still “subject to government approval” you can take it as  a given that approval will be received and that these routes/flights will appear on the schedule.

New York (Newark)

EWR – ATH

United has announced a daily non-stop service between New York Newark Airport (EWR) and Athens (Greece not Georgia!) using Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

The route will commence on 25 May 2016 and will run through to 5 October 2016

The daily flights will be as follows:

UA124 EWR 17:40 – ATH 10:30+1 day
UA125 ATH 12:30 – EWR 16:30

The flight times are scheduled at 9 hours 50 minutes Eastbound and 11 hours Westbound.

Washington (Dulles)

IAD – BCN

United will fly a daily non-stop service between Washington’s Dulles International Airport and Barcelona, Spain using Boeing 767-400 aircraft.

The route will commence on 25 May 2016 and will run through to 6 September 2016

The daily flights will be as follows:

UA140 IAD 18:10 – BCN 08:20+1 day
UA141 BCN 11:30 – IAD 14:25

The flight times are scheduled at 8 hours 10 minutes Eastbound and 9 hours 15 minutes Westbound.

United’s existing year-round flights to Barcelona and Madrid from Newark are unaffected by this addition.

IAD – LIS

United will further add to its flights serving the Iberian peninsula by flying a daily service between Washington Dulles International Airport and Lisbon, Portugal using 757-200 aircraft.

The route will commence on 25 May 2016 and will run through to 6 September 2016

The daily flights will be as follows:

UA167 IAD 17:55 – LIS 06:20+1 day
UA168 LIS 10:50 – IAD 14:10

The flight times are scheduled at 7 hours 25 minutes Eastbound and 8 hours 20 minutes Westbound.

United’s existing year-round service between New York Newark and Lisbon are unaffected by this addition.

According to a United Airlines press release:

As scheduled, aircraft operating Newark-Athens, Washington-Barcelona and Washington-Lisbon flights will offer modern interiors with personal on-demand entertainment at every seat, Wi-Fi, in-seat power throughout the aircraft and multi-course meals in United BusinessFirst and United Economy. Customers in United BusinessFirst also enjoy the comfort of flat-bed seats.

Always nice to see airlines adding more routes and giving passengers more options. I can’t say I’ll be rushing to purchase the 757-200 flights to Lisbon but a trip to Athens does sound like fun….but let’s wait to see what the prices are like.
