Singapore Airlines offers some of the more aspirational awards out there so any opportunity to earn a few extra miles is very welcome….and right now there’s a promotion that could help you books your KrisFlyer balance quite nicely.

Singapore Airlines is offering UK-based travelers (or anyone willing to start the journey in the UK) an opportunity to earn double KrisFlyer Miles when you book a flight to any of the airline’s 11 destinations in Australia and New Zealand.

Double KrisFlyer Miles Promotion

To earn double KrisFlyer miles on your next Singapore Airlines flight this is what you need to do:

  • Book a Singapore Airlines flight from the UK to Australia or New Zealand
  • Book by 19 August 2016
  • Travel in any cabin (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, First)
  • Travel between 1 October and 30 November 2016
  • Depart from London or Manchester
  • Travel must be on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir
  • Make sure you add your KrisFlyer number to your reservation.

Bookings can be made via SingaporeAirlines.com or via a travel agent and miles will be credited “once you return”.

How Many Miles Can You Earn?

Singapore Airlines awards miles based on distance flown but, because the airline throws in a multiplier based on the class of ticket you purchase, the cheaper the ticket the fewer miles you will earn.

Per the Singapore Airlines award chart:

Example earnings:

All these figures should be doubled for the purposes of the promotion

  • London – Singapore – Sydney (Round-trip in Discounted Economy) = 2,314 miles
  • Manchester – Singapore – Perth (Round-trip in Discounted Economy) = 1,846 miles
  • London – Singapore – Auckland (Round-trip in Premium Economy) = 26,378 miles
  • Manchester – Singapore – Sydney (Round-trip Premium Economy) = 23,577 miles
  • London – Singapore – Melbourne (Round-trip Business Class) = 26,681 miles
  • Manchester – Singapore – Christchurch (Round-trip Business Class) = 30,075 miles

And if nothing else that shows you the gulf in earnings between discounted Economy class fares and the more premium cabins – it’s huge.

Clearly if you’re booking an Economy Class ticket this isn’t anything to get excited about but, if you’re booking a Premium Economy fare or higher, the earning s can be substantial.

Using this promotion, a round-trip Business Class fare between Manchester and Christchurch will earn over 60,000 KrisFlyer miles and, when you consider that a one-way Business Class saver award between London and Sydney is just 68,000 miles (when booked online), that’s a pretty good return!

Bottom Line

This isn’t exactly a promotion that’s going to encourage anyone to rush out and buy a discounted Economy Class ticket to Australia…..but if you’ve already been considering booking a Premium Economy fare (or higher) and you can travel in the promotion window, then this may be enough to push you into a purchase.
