The Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi was already a full size structure when I visited Abu Dhabi in December 2015 and it was suggested at the time that it would be open in time for my next visit a year later. It wasn’t.
Now, seemingly ages after the hotel was first expected to open, the property has announced that it’s finally accepting guests….but only in limited numbers.
According to Hyatt the Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi is “currently operating with a limited room inventory and a limited number of dining options. All other facilities, including the Grand Club, are expected to be available for guests in late 2018“.
What’s taking so long!?
The property is located 35 minutes from Abu Dhabi international airport at one end of the Corniche and a short walk from the Emirates Palace.
The property offers 332 rooms, 36 suites and 60 full-service 1- and 2-bed residences ranging from 968 to 1500 square feet in area.
Guests booked into Club Floor rooms or suites have access to the Grand Club Lounge on the 26th floor which “will provide a luxurious living space with sweeping views of the city’s skyline and the glittering Arabian Gulf“.
The hotel will eventually offer a variety of bars and restaurants with each offering a different cuisine but, for now, only two eateries are open – Verso (an Italian trattoria) and the Pearl Lounge (offering “opulent afternoon teas”).
The property is home to a 164ft outdoor infinity pool alongside spacious terraces and the Lum’a Spa.
The Spa’s highlights will include special treatments based on local techniques, saunas, a steam bath and relaxation rooms.
The Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi is the second Grand Hyatt in the UAE (the other is in Dubai) and is the third Hyatt property in Abu Dhabi after the Park Hyatt and the Hyatt Capital Gate.
If you’re looking to book award nights they’ll set you back 15,000 each (the property is a World of Hyatt category 4 property) and seem to be readily available right now.
If you’re thinking of booking a cash rate I wouldn’t rush to book just yet as there’s something odd going on with the pricing. When I checked two random dates for next January (by which time presumably the Grand Hyatt will be fully operational) this is what I found:
and….
I have no idea why the Grand Hyatt is priced at 2 to 3 times what the beautiful Park Hyatt is priced at but that’s a little farcical and I definitely wouldn’t pay those prices.
If you are planning to visit Abu Dhabi this summer and if you can find good rates at the Grand Hyatt (or if you find award availability) then don’t forget that Hyatt is running a bonus points promotion for all stays at Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency properties (full details via this link) but you need to register by 15 July 2018.
