I seem to be having a very European/UK centric day today so apologies to all the US readers who may be wondering what’s going on – it’s just one of those days where most of the things that are appearing in my inbox are from across the pond.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way….

Etihad has launched an Economy & Business Class sale for departures out of London and Manchester and if you don’t like having to take positioning flights into Europe (to catch the excellent Qatar Airways Business Class deals) then this sale appears to offer the next best set of Business Class deals between the UK and Asia.

Book these fares in the Etihad sale here

Out of these fares the one’s that stick out (for me) are the sub £1,800 fares to Bangkok, the £1,724 fare between Manchester and Islamabad and the £2,999 fare between Manchester and Brisbane.

I’ve reviewed the Etihad A380 Business Class cabin (here) and the Etihad 777 Business Class cabin (here) and, as the Etihad Dreamliner offers similar seats to the A380, the A380 review should give you an idea what to expect.

All things considered, the “studio” seats in the A380 & 787s are better than the Business Class seats in the 777 so, if you have a choice of aircraft, those are the ones I suggest focusing on.

Book A Free Stop Over In Abu Dhabi

Flyers are entitled to a free night in Abu Dhabi at a 5* hotel when booking an Etihad Business Class fare (more information here) so you can break up your long-haul trip into more manageable segments if you prefer.

Here’s how it works (per Etihad):

  1. Book your Business Class ticket through the booking search on the Etihad homepage or through a travel agent.
  2. Fill in the Hotel booking form.
  3. You will be contacted within 48 hours to book your complimentary stay in your selected city.
  4. Upon hotel check-in, please present your Etihad boarding pass and your booking confirmation to access your complimentary room.

At the time of writing these are the hotel choices open to Business Class passengers:

  • Anantara Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa
  • Intercontinental Abu Dhabi
  • Jumeirah at Etihad Towers
  • Rosewood Abu Dhabi
  • Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri
  • The Ritz Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal (reviewed here)
  • The St. Regis Abu Dhabi
  • Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi

That’s a pretty good set of hotels to choose from (especially as they’re free).

Bottom Line

Are these Business Class fares as good as the Qatar Airways fares currently on offer out of Scandinavia? No…but they may not be much good to you if you don’t want to travel to another country before you start your trip.

There are some very good Business Class fares here (by UK standards) and Etihad Business Class can be a very nice place to spend some time so these are genuinely good deals that are on offer.

Don’t forget to compare Etihad’s prices with the Business Class fares currently on offer in the BA sale but bear in mind that Etihad’s Business Class is considerably better than what you’ll get with BA – make your decisions carefully.
